We don’t have any passive damage reduction like warriors and some other specs. No evasion CD to dodge, slow mobility, all we have is DS everyone hates (I can understand why.) on a long CD (can be removed by warriors and Priests), and SoV, BoP is often useless depending on comps but when it’s not the problem is it shares a DR with DS.
Armor was weakened in 9.1 from what people have said and even if it was not most classes, even melee deal magic damage.
We die just as fast outside of bubbles as any other squishy class if we are not trading our damage for healing, that’s how we stay alive, but it’s weak outside of moments with all of our cooldowns stacked.
There are so many classes that can pressure you outside of their burst windows into trading all of your damage for healing, like warriors monks ECT. In a real fight, a good rogue can CC your teammate, force you to bubble and then reset and kill you on the next go when you have forbearance and can’t use BoP. Warriors only need to be worried about our burst windows and have ways to deal with it between leap and kiting till it ends, parrying our attacks, defense stance + IP, Fear or stunning us. We don’t have built in ways to remove CC outside of Bubble unlike warriors removing fears.
The OP complained about bubble making a Ret immune while they attack, there are situations were that is worth doing but in most cases it’s just a quick way to lose vs anyone decent. It’s not common unless you are fighting low CR people, and it’s not like warriors and monks lose out on 1/2 their damage when they parry all my attacks, rogues with magic immune + Evasion removing most of our damage if not all of it and disarm.
I get that it feels annoying, I would complain about stuff like that too in the past when I had never played a Ret myself but I really recommend people try out Ret themselves in PvP and see why it would suck if more restrictions are placed on Ret with how the spec is built.
Ret is a burst class, outside of that small window every 2 min and a smaller window every 1 min our damage and healing is poor. While bubble is nice for a defense skill it has a long cooldown and can be removed now by warriors and priests, who often play with each other and know to precast dispel / shatter these days. People want so much toned down or made useless for Ret yet many other classes still do better and have more tools. Ret is just annoying to face if you don’t understand them I think, I just don’t want them made useless like in BFA again because people QQ too much over bad play on their part.
