don’t answer, it’s rhetorical. It’s because druids are the favorite child of Blizzard.
i was musing the other day on how we should be able to break roots by switching to visage
I have a druid friend that’s always shocked that polymorph mechanics exist whenever they happen on other people.
Or because the dragon form is the actual not transformed Body?
Best guess, because visage is an illusion, you are still in evoker form, you just look humanoid, which is why it breaks in combat. Druid shape shift actually changes form.
Canonically, if you told that to a dragon, they would never speak to you again. In the tides of war novel, Kalecgos is genuinely offended when Jaina compares his humanoid appearance to a hallow’s end costume.
A visage is a different form. If it were just an illusion, Alexstrazsa would never be able to fit into small doors.
true, didnt think about the doors…
but as Frara said, their dragon form is their actual form, not shapeshift, so it shouldnt be immune.
It is an advanced illusion.
They cast it like magic.
it is not shapeshifting as per lore
It is literally shapeshifting. They are shifting their physical shape. Just because it’s a spell doesn’t make it any less shapeshifting.
dragonkin cant be polymorphed, though.
So if visage is just an illusion, all the more reason to be immune from polymorph. (although granted, druids would be able to hibernate dracthyrs)
furthermore, mages can poly beasts and humanoids, and yet for some reason Druids are immune to poly in beast form
Because druid forms are something you manually swap in and out of. You don’t swap out of dragon form to cast anything in your visage. Having poly immunity as a passive would just be busted.
i’m not advocating for dragons to be immune to poly, i’m saying druids should be able to be poly’d in beast form (cat, bear, travel form, moonkin, etc.).
At this point, yeah I pretty much agree. Fewer things are limited to forms and there’s not really any cost to swapping forms compared to way back when swapping to immune a poly had a considerable mana cost.
Yeah. Druids have way too many escapes from CC with no internal cooldown.
So true
This is a D&D thing. Shapeshifters are immune to polymorph because shapeshifting is a form of self polymorph.
Now on WoW terms, the original devs decided that Druid was a shapeshifter and thus could benefit to not being polymorphed or rooted.
Dracthyr aren’t technically true dragons, we’re a mutated amalgamation of mortal essence and Aspect magic. If anything we’re FAR far closer to half-dragons or even closer to original Dragonborn lore from D&D. Both of which can be polymorphed.
The reason why Shaepshifters can’t be polymorphed in most fantasy is the concept of a mastery over their forms, you can’t force-change thier forms because they’re always in control of their forms. In that same line of thought, we’ve JUST barely learned how to do our Visage’s in the past year during a crash course with Wrathion/Ebonhorn, we’re hardly master shapeshifters.
