Why can’t we have hunter pet specs?

Can we please get to change our pet specs? I’m tired of having a raptor in pvp lol

They removed pet specs because they were too much fun, and we all know how much Blizz hates that.

Woa look how cool and edgy you are saying Blizz hates fun! I mean how do you people do it!? Day in and day out, so much creativity and originality! Not childish, no no no, pure Chad! I mean I’m swooning as I type. It’s hard not to be overwhelmed by just how awesome you are for that deep, thoughtful, helpful response. Other people may say you’re a derpy immature child, but I say you’re a national treasure.

Standard Wotlk waiting and stuff.

Do you have better explanation?

There were literally no downsides to letting us choose pet specs. They gave us near complete freedom to use pretty much any pet in any situation, and then took it all away without even explaining why.

Oh you don’t have to convince me, princess. With big-brain, unassailable logic like that only an idiot would consider a different explanation

I am a princess! Thanks for noticing :)

Of course I don’t have to convince you. You clearly have all the answers so why not share with the rest of us?

Any time I see Wonkers comments on posts it is just tear down or bash a person’s comment and add zero to the conversation has zero opinion themselves apparently the topic has little interest to them. It’s very critical but not original to say what you said but it’s true that adds more to the conversation than Wonkers did.

Pet re-specing was seen as fun by the majority of people and allowed the use of a larger variety of pets. But WoW wanted to push pet spec identity over fun. Didn’t make sense to them to allow you to have a ferocity turtle or hippo so they felt they should take that away from us.

It took them 3 expansions to diversify the hunter spec in WoD, they added in Lone Wolf For Marksmen to be the sniper commando ranger of the three but without pet I felt that needed camo ability cause of a lack of pet. In legion, they brought back old melee hunter abilities and tried to meld them into the current iteration of Survival hunter, and its a fun class but feels mishmash at times in battle for Azeroth they tried giving beastmasters more pets along with exotic tames but failed and put them behind talents that were often the weaker choice and into Shadowlands and they are still needing buffs according to BM player base. If the diversifying was done well there be no complaints except those that just hate change.

  1. Survival needs be able to do both Ranged and Melee well since it dosnt have its own defensive tool kit and has the base denfensive hunter toolkit for kiting it needs to be able to kite and do a lot damage like the other 2 specs. But for class diversity the melee weapon is great getting up close against range classes that lack defense against melee damage besides kiting but Survival hunter cant be kited if it’s also effective Ranged spec that can harpoon in to do melee damage this is how survival should be. Give it some ranged elements similar to the other classes but not the same.

  2. Beastmaster should default to 2 beasts and abilities should be ranged abilities and beast summon abilities adding in more temporary companions along with the exotic animals that no other hunter can tame.

  3. Marksmen need a better lone wolf with arsenal or arrows and traps that can do what any pet does while being able to camo without a talent and even having a defensive ability that pop that hunter into a 1 min camo while in combat and to allow camo to CD while in us and to lower CD by 30sec.

  4. Pet choice is better as a vanity choice so pet re-specing is in the right direction I believe i believe most hunters care what there pet looks like more then there abilities so make spec and skills trainable and make some pet skill exotic pet only.

sorry for going on into a hunter design rant but it was on topic of them trying diversify the pets and i went into them doing same to specs thats happened over last 3 exspacs and legion was something good that they back out on in BFA.

But the question is, why not? How does it make more sense that clefthooves are ferocity instead of tenacity? Why are goats and camels cunning? Wind serpents are ferocity, so why are dragonhawks tenacity? There’s already no rhyme or reason to the pet specs, so why not cut it loose?

For all I know there’s actually a really good reason why pet specs were removed, but if so they at least could have told us why rather than just leaving us all confused and annoyed about it.

True that that’s why I feel like they should have pet re-specing back that way your choice is only with pet family abilities and looks. And I have the opinion that pets should be able to learn a second trained pet ability so regular pets will have 2, one family one trained and exotic will have two family abilities and one trainable. That way hunters can choose a pet that causes slow and give them mortal wound or pick a pet with mortal wound and give them a slow for pvp or what ever the hunter needs.

Which is weird since… honestly a hippo shouldn’t be anything but ferocity, they’re vicious killing machines XD.

Honestly quite a few of the family spec designations don’t really make a lot of sense.

What are you talking about, sunshine? I’m with you. The people that make this video game clearly hate fun. Why else?!

That’s hilarious that you think “blizzard hates fun” is worth engaging on a meaningful level. But yea I’m the chucklehead for pointing that out.

Yea they designed the game on time-wasting cause they lacked enough casual fun content. They put too much into a system that is tossed out in the next expansion and focused on content a small minority of players engage in Rated and Mythics. Make the game harder and make the game take longer even though you have a system that promotes using and playing Alts. And it is right for Ametrine to say Blizz hates Fun cause the statement is to be taken as feeling not literal. The majority of developers love that game and want to make it as fun as possible but sometimes business aspects can strangle creativity and focus it on the wrong parts of the game waisting development time on dead content and adding in time waisting or time-gated content on stuff most of us enjoy but not add enough variety and development into the pool quest, minigames, dailies for regular Dungeons and Battlegrounds, and world quests.

And you proved my point cause I never said that. I empathized that sentiment with reason the reason above but the feelings aren’t mine nor did I say it. Hi Chucklehead  -bonks you on the head- Wonkers is now Bonkers.

You literally said exactly that…

Cause they like to put realism over fun design at odd times at the request of the player base. Remember when people complained that wildfire bombs would blow up the hunter and pet so they changed the explosion to a harder-to-use cone that blows away from the target on impact instead of an aoe on hit target. The WoW player base likes to sabotage itself by trying to put realism in the game or trying to nit-pick at the class to try to bring back something they thought was better in the past but whatever the reason things get sabotaged and ruined cause they never get what they ask for the ability get altered so the nit-pic complaint no longer works but the complainer win in some way cause they ruined the class further ending towards the goal of returning SV hunter to full Ranged only when I think is should be both cause melee hurts and having both means you cant be kited. I’m sure someone argued that it was dumb and unrealistic so they changed it back.

Not only should pet specs return, but we should also be able to choose our pet’s ability. For example, a wolf could have a mortal wounds debuff, a slow, or a crit buff, and we could choose which ability is active at a given time. It bugs me how restrictive the current system is. I wanna use my core hound and devilsaur without gimping myself. :unamused:

Agreed. Some pet abilities are completely useless. I mean, dodge CD? In what version of the universe is that ever useful?
