Why would I buy with money, tender, or my time (farming) many of the mounts available when I can’t use them in the current expansion? I’ve not seen anything concrete on how they will proceed with dragon flying vs traditional flying and until I know what will happen with traditional mounts I don’t want to go out of my way to get more.
Am I missing something? If I’m correct, it seems like an oversight for blizzard to not explain why I should consider getting traditional mounts.
I believe they’re backporting the DR system to certain old drake mounts. So I’m busily farming those atm. Managed to finally get TLPD recently. Now just need the damn blue one that refuses to drop.
“At launch, in the first or second zone, you’ll gain the trust of a Dragon companion and you’ll be able to call it in the Dragon Isles. It’s not too experienced in flying at the start and has limited Stamina, but as your Bond grows will allow you to loosen those restrictions. Long term, flying with your regular mounts is still the plan. It should feel good from the start, and should only get better from there.”
However, when that will happen is not known, and as the expansion goes on, ‘long term’ seems to be rather undefined.
For someone like me who hates large mounts with really “busy” animations, i hope they hell they don’t limit it to drakes only, i need one small/quiet mount that functions with DR (my preference would be the Magic Rooster lol).
In one of the earlier 10.1.5 PTR builds there was briefly a toggle where you could toggle back and forth between old flying and DR in the old world. It didn’t actually work and you were stuck in old flying in the old world but there was a buff on your buff bar saying you were in old flight mode.
They did say in interviews at the start of DF that they expected to enable old flight in the Dragon Isles at a later date.
And as Trustlvlfour said they are well into converting the old flying mounts to work in the DR system.
So like you said, there has been nothing concrete said about how, when or how they will restrict things in 11.0, but everything they are doing is pointing toward them making it an option to use whichever you want by the end of the expac.
My bigger concern is what are they going to do in 11.0. Are they going to keep up with the DF model and let us fly in the new zones, maybe add new styles of flight, or are they going to just ground us again like they did in MoP.
Some mount’s, like Gryphons, will be able to dragon-fly in the future.
All flying mounts can still, and are currently required to, be used everywhere other than Dragon Isles if you want to fly.
They add to your collection thus helping you to get the achievement mount.
Basically, just get mounts that you want and let WoW sort itself out.
Dragonflight will be the only flying after this expac and other dragon mounts will be revamped to have DF so no worry there. Once DF is available in all zones and legacy flight removed you should be good to go.
In all fairness, the vast majority of our mount collections have been gathering dust this expansion because of how limited DR is, so it’s a legitimate concern.
There are no reasons aside from aesthetics. There are no mounts in store that do something functionally different than a mount that can be earned in game. Any mounts in store or bought with tenders or the monthly tenders reward are purely cosmetic.
No it’s really not considering it’s already been stated that normal flight will be added… we just don’t know when yet. Nothing has even been hinted at about normal flight being removed. If it was too many people would unsub. So unless there is an announcement it’s just trolling.
