Why aren't there more katana transmogs?

All transmogs are vanila’s ugly ones

Was that fear of pissing off the Chinese sensors?

If that’s the reason I don’t think you need rofl anymore

We need a Samurai spec to effectively use Katanas as a weapon type.
They don’t really work with the animations for “generic western swords”.

In the end, even that turned into a generic greatsword

I don’t think it’s that as just a lack of diversity and variety… we also have virtually no scythes in old world WoW either… among other somewhat common weapons in other game franchises.

The engine at the time was blocky and clunky after all, and it’s not much better at handling new stuff now either.

Aren’t katanas japanese?

I would admit i’m not an expert on chinese weaponry

Yeah, A little variety wouldn’t hurt in several weapon types. Lightsabers too!

Yes on both accounts, the Chinese use straight swords primarily. This has to do with Japan’s lack of natural iron deposits which makes forging a traditional sword much much harder… as they have less materials to work with and therefore because steel is purified iron they have to make a sword with less overall steel to work with.

(this is of course prior to opening up trade with other countries for things like imported steel)

This is probably the best you’re ever going to get. It’s a bit of a rare drop though.

Fix’d

I 100% agree. I use blade of Hanna but would much rather something more similar to Genji’s dragon sword with some beautiful HAMON(刃文; Blade-Waves

There are plenty of straight swords. i’m all for diversity

It’s probably because katanas are stupid.

if katanas are so stupid then why do people think samurais are cool?

Checkmate longswordsman.

Bro I would reinstall WoW in a second if they brought in japanese armor/samurai sengoku armor/katanas/katana animations.

Still very surprised there hasnt been any japanese themed armor in the game yet after all these years… Also Samuro from Warcraft3 still MIA in WoW

The Chinese hate the Japanese. It’s why the Eastern elements in the game have mostly changed from Japanese inspired to China inspired, to pander to the Chinese. Now that WoW is canceled in China though Warcraft can return to its root.

…why not? It’s a sword, you slash with it. You don’t need to do a fancy kata first.

There are swords, like rapiers, that don’t really fit with the typical hack-and-slash animations WoW uses, but a) that’s because they’re for stabbing, which a katana isn’t, and b) they just put them in the game anyway and nobody cares.

(There are also swords that are swung but with more of a chopping motion, like a cleaver, but again, not the katana. And swords that you can use more or less like a spear, but not the katana. A katana is very effectively specialized into just the one kind of sword attack that WoW actually has.)

All of them? I personally like how not-WoWified they are but I would love to see more “fantasy” versions. My favorite is the Blade of Hanna btw.
