Why aren't rogues sapping?

I’m not seeing sap being used in dungeons as a form of CC, even when it would really help (like in 5-pulls, or when the group is really short on cc).

Is a particular spec required for rogues to be able to sap successfully? Just curious what to look out for.

Rogue players are typically cowards by nature. So the idea that Sap removes rogues from stealth pre-BC drives them to abandon Sap altogether.

You gotta spec Subtlety for that … meaning less dps.

Because the tank or lead didn’t mark it. If they mark it, I’ll sap it.

It’s basically a death sentence. Using sap removes you from stealth and then, you’re right next to a pack of mobs. (Unless you spec for it, as someone else mentioned. ) Classic was really unfriendly for many forms of CC.

Vanilla is not the same as TBC and on.

Sap pulls you out of stealth unless you have improved sap from the subtlety tree. Even then, it is only a 90% chance to sap the target without leaving stealth, making it less than ideal unless the CC is absolutely mandatory.

Yeah sap just isn’t a good CC in Classic. Its a last resort tbh, when your group didn’t bring any better CC like sheeps or even hunter’s frost traps

Ok thanks.

So, if you are asked to sap, how do you work this into the pull, since you will essentially be pulling as well? Should the tank charge in and shout to get the aggro off of you from the un-cc’d mobs?

Cos I’m just gonna consecrate the whole pack anyway.

Double if they are Night Elves.

Since you can’t sap targets in combat, generally you want the rogue to open and start running back to the party while the rest of your team CC or pick up the trail of mobs following you… like i said its less than ideal and if its your only CC it is often better to just not sap and have the tank control the pull rather than scrambling around trying to get all the mobs off the rogue.

Exactly this. Combat is the PVE spec and is what most rogues are playing as, especially while leveling.

If sapping gets you killed as a rogue please choose a different class. That’s embarrassing.

Whenever I say stuff like that Blizzard gives me a couple days vacation from the forums. Witch Hunt!

Ok thanks. Yeah that’s about what I would have imagined. It seems doable though. Looking forward to trying this when short on CC.

It may be that tanks aren’t universally competent at picking up the aggro too. Unless rogues have a way to drop back into stealth after sapping?

There’s a talent for that but LilZoom420 told everyone to go combat so they all did. I guess I’m the only rogue that can do it.

So…build your talent spec around a talent to maybe not make your terrible CC not as terrible…when we don’t really need CC (and if we did, others can do it better and easier)…at the cost of a ton of DPS? Great idea!

I’m sure lilzoom crunched the numbers for you but I do just fine DPS as subtlety.
