It’s basically a death sentence. Using sap removes you from stealth and then, you’re right next to a pack of mobs. (Unless you spec for it, as someone else mentioned. ) Classic was really unfriendly for many forms of CC.
Sap pulls you out of stealth unless you have improved sap from the subtlety tree. Even then, it is only a 90% chance to sap the target without leaving stealth, making it less than ideal unless the CC is absolutely mandatory.
So, if you are asked to sap, how do you work this into the pull, since you will essentially be pulling as well? Should the tank charge in and shout to get the aggro off of you from the un-cc’d mobs?
Since you can’t sap targets in combat, generally you want the rogue to open and start running back to the party while the rest of your team CC or pick up the trail of mobs following you… like i said its less than ideal and if its your only CC it is often better to just not sap and have the tank control the pull rather than scrambling around trying to get all the mobs off the rogue.
So…build your talent spec around a talent to maybe not make your terrible CC not as terrible…when we don’t really need CC (and if we did, others can do it better and easier)…at the cost of a ton of DPS? Great idea!

I’m sure lilzoom crunched the numbers for you but I do just fine DPS as subtlety.
