Well I usually don’t try and get into that but in this case, I would like a few more options for Paladin races on alliance. It’s by far my favorite class.
Because as much as Alliance players like to complain about racials, most (at least among posters here, take that for what it’s worth) don’t seem to understand the game well enough to realize the strengths of the racials they have. Which are, overall, better than Horde racials. But Alliance players don’t understand that.
Two reasons:
- Look at your first reply. The bizarre Dwarf hate. I don’t know why people wanna hate on one of the few cool races the Alliance even have, but there it is.
- I don’t think people realize how cool the Dark Iron customization options actually are. I certainly didn’t, I ignored them for a long time, when I finally made one for the hell of it I was like, whoa. This is awesome.
My 120 warlock is a DID. If anything surprises me about them, it’s the amount of people that chose Velf Warlock over the DID. I mean, talk about a thematic match up.
I suspect the prime reason they aren’t more popular is because if you liked the Dwarves, you’ve been able to make a lighter DID for 15 years now.
I’m a little shocked that DID got the Paladin, but the KTs and the Velfs didn’t.
Velfs were understandably not paladins. But KT did surprise me.
This does not imply that they are detested. They are just not ideal for all people.
Certainly goblins are also not as played as other races in the horde and that does not mean that they are detested.
People have weird hangups with short characters… unless they also happen to have fur, then being short is totally fine (see vloops). I don’t get it personally, dwarves (both variants) and gnomes make up a larger chunk of my alts.
I’ve played a dwarf for a very long time, across a few games, and these have been my experience/observations:
-
I’ve seen quite a few players admire the DiD, but didn’t want to level up an Alliance and do all the work just to unlock them. I expect there to be a boost in the DiD population in Shadowlands once the rep requirement is removed.
-
Vanity. I get it, when I started my first MMO, I only picked races I identified with starting with human, barbarian, and eventually elf. It took a while to find my true love, the gnome. Think of it this way – becoming Wesley and Buttercup in the Princess Bride is #lifegoals while overlooking characters like Miracle Max and Valerie. Repeat viewing is required to find the hidden gems.
-
People get mean towards races they deem unattractive. They don’t ever have to play a dwarf, but I can’t tell you how many threads (across several games) I’ve seen requesting that dwarves basically get fewer resources/development dedicated to them because they’re not as popular as the human/elves. (The same attitude has cropped up in a few mechagnome threads, for example.)
-
People already have mains established at this point. I love the goblins and I love the DiD. If they had been available on day one, they would have been on my short list. I’m not interested in switching mains even though I have the goblin and DiD maxed out. Too much time and love invested to switch.
Yeah? I don’t know. If the Belfs are Paladins. And the Velfs can be Priests, it’s surprising to me.
Partly because the shiny draenei were available when Allied races were new, right? Mostly Allied races got old pretty quickly, with the exception of Vulpera because Vulpera feel like a NEW race. DI dwarves came off like just another slight difference, I think.
I have only gotten two allied races, and DI dwarves are one, so obviously I liked them.
Because they’re on Alliance
All of the coolness in the world isn’t going to make more people roll short chubby fantasy people when they can be tall, graceful, beautiful or jacked instead.
Especially when people who want to look cool without looking ‘pretty’ have traditionally gone Horde already.
I only play pretty races, dorfs gnomes are lumped into the ugly categories. This applies even on my other games, like DnD. There is no way you can draw a dorf or gnome in an attractive manner. For the horde side I dont play orcs tauren trolls or goblins.
They’re on the Wrong faction
You put crazy, easy to piss off, fire dwarves on the Horde?
Top seller, overnight
But they’re on the Alliance.
Blizzard decided to brick one of the best races in the game by giving them to the faction nobody plays.
Dwarves are awesome, i cant see why people dont like them. Gnomes i get but dwarves are lit
Easy answer: they are just reskins and could easily be added to regular dwarves as a customization option.
I’m shocked KT aren’t played more
