If I based my game choice on popularity, I’d have switched to Fortnite long ago (and probably a newer fad since.)

I also can’t match the “half the player base is gone” claim to my own play experience, but I realize everyone is different. (I do see many players that have moved exclusively or nearly so to Classic, although they’re still paying the same sub fee, so I don’t think that’s what the SuperData quote is talking about.)

The guild I was in before my current one is dead. Like literally not raiding, not doing anything and everyone is ‘taking a break until 9.1’ The people range from people that played through BFA through to people that took a break and came back for Shadowlands.

The mythic + group finder is in a bad state. On a weekend day on a really popular server the listings are not good. Like very, very few keys. This game is not doing well I wish it wasn’t true but as someone who plays regularly you can certainly see it.

has its moment working on an alt up till that wall point is fun then its back to feeling like a slog endless boring grind

We refer to it as the man in the mirror syndrome. If they don’t see the reality of the situation then there’s nothing anyone else can do to change their minds.

So we’re not allowed to have fun because you’re not having fun? Cool story bro.

There have been multiple reports from stock and statistics companies that published information that they’re subs are down 67%. Since you have no idea what you’re talking about, Bellular made a video about it about a month ago and its decline has been even more drastic since. Maybe you should check it out, fanboi before you go all white knight.

Games dead. Do some laps around Oribos and tell me the games not missing player base. My friends list has been 1 or two people here and there that log in for 5 minutes aka dailies and then log out. And its been like this for well over a month. Don’t worry though, when there’s no players left in the game you can play with all those wow tokens that blizzard is ok replacing subs with. I’m sure someone will also sell you a raid spot in the next raid tier too!

I don’t know you and I probably wouldn’t like you if I did.

I enjoy the game. So why should I even care if you and half of everyone else quit?

Curious why you care if someone likes something you don’t…

I never defend Acti-Bliz, except in one situation: when someone is attacking Acti-Bliz with imaginary stuff they make up in their head. I call out their nonsense.

It isn’t "defending a game’ to say “some people hate it, and some people like it”. Isn’t that exactly what “not that popular” means? So we agree, but you say I am “in denial” and “defending”. You are attacking me. Of course I am defending myself!

I played the game from 2005-2013. I didn’t even look at the game from 2014-2020.

I bought a gaming laptop last July and decided to give WoW a whirl again. I made it an entire 4 months of Shadowlands before I said screw this garbage.

I think the biggest difference between players who like or hate the game right now is the difference between those who played when Blizzard developed the game and those who came in around or after Activision bought them out.

If you are old school like me, You probably do not like it much because it is a bloated shadow of it’s past form. For those who came in the last decade, I guess anything and everything is better than WOD was so Shadowlands would be appealing or feel good.

The quote goes on to say “This roughly matches the pattern seen for the past several expansions, though Shadowlands had a bigger launch.”

In other words, a 41% drop is normal. It’s been going on for many years. It is not more than normal. And yet you call it “pathetic”, showing your ignorance.

So random companies that don’t have access to Blizzard’s sub number say they’re down x amount without proof?

So everyone who came for Wrath?

What’s their source for their data, and in what way can it be considered authoritative? Please be specific. I personally believe that Blizz is taking a big hit in subs, but it’s just that - a belief. I openly admit that I have no reliable source to back that up.

This is the answer. Retail appeals to raiders who want to dabble in a few other systems. That is the game.

It is not a game where you can do anything or become anything. It’s not a game with deep peer 2 peer systems. So you either enjoy raiding or you don’t play it.

Personally I think the game is being hamstrung by bad ideas. When I think of what it could be it could be so much more than it is.

There are a small few minor things that are degenerate, but other than that I like it

Not my problem.

And that ‘drop off’ is not only expected, but normal. It’s been something that’s been happening since Cataclysm, as WoW players have matured. A new expansion comes out, players jump in to check it out, play for a bit, then move on to the next game or back to their normal lives until the next big patch etc.

Hell, those of us who started playing this game in vanilla are in our late 20s, mid-30s or older now. The folks who played this game when it peaked are getting old now. We’re not going to play as much as we used to. That’s the simple nature of growing up and taking on more responsibilities, such as work and families.
