Why are you giving away the few "special" things that loyal players have in WoW?

It genuinely feels like the years of being a fan are being thrown to the wayside.

The Spirit of Competition is one of the VERY few things that exist in the game as a way for players to show “hey, I was there!”.

Hell, Tyrael’s Charger was EXPLICITLY detailed as the first annual WoW sub reward, to try and keep players subbed during a content drought. That promise was broken, effectively giving a middle finger to all the fans that supported WoW during that time.

It feels like the Devs are just giving up on the game, and giving up on the fans with moves like this. Why even play the game at all, why pay money, if they’re not going to honor your time? Fans of the game should be rewarded, not given the shaft. Little things that players can be excited to have and share with others, instead of just saying “nobody’s experience with the game matters”.

I mean, WoW is coming up on 19 YEARS online. And yet anything that could possible acknowledge long-time fans is just being rendered meaningless.

Imagine having a t-shirt from a concert where your favorite band played. It’s something you could wear, and if it caught someone’s eye, you could be like “yeah, I love this band! I saw them tour back in '08!”, something to be excited about, something that feels special. But if it were just some generic t-shirt that anyone can buy at wal-mart, it ceases to be “special”. It becomes just a shirt.

Cosmetic things like pets, mounts, tabards – those things EXIST for that sole reason. They are a reward to players, either for promotions, events, activities, whatever, so they can be excited about the game. Where if someone sees you with a pet and asks you how you got it, you can share the experience. And ideally, have new experiences that new fans get rewards, so they have something to make them feel special, too.

Time-sensitive content, FOMO, unobtainable things, and salt. These were the ingredients chosen to make the perfect wow player.

As the owner of many TCG pets and both Spectral Tigers, along with multiple other things that can’t be obtained anymore, I vote that they just open the flood gates and bring it all back. FOMO was a mistake.

Like your thread about Draenei/Lightforged Draenei Warlocks becoming a thing this is a nonissue and is a positive change for the whole playerbase because it allows people to obtain things they might want or need from the past and that’s great.

I think your perspective is a valid one, regardless if I agree with it or not. But you’re poking the bear here in GD. This is likely going to devolve quickly.

Would be great if blizzard actually responded about this.

I actually agree…

I know it’s a sensitive topic, but they really should keep things more exclusive. It’s a part of the reason for either paying to receive it or to participate in a certain activity to get it.

Imagine if all of the previous Blizzcon rewards are made available, but for a lesser amount?

I think that is sort of crappy and lazy. Blizzard is capable of offering players new things, even if pets or mounts are recolored or something, as new rewards. But they don’t.

I agree. I want gladiator mounts on the Trading Post next.

I think it’s mostly because Blizzard wants to give away a bunch of things to keep the masses hanging about, and giving away things that already exist in the game and have a value to us as players is the easiest/cheapest way to go about doing it. Upsetting a small group of long term players/collectors wouldn’t bother them in the slightest.

Blizz is quickly running out of ideas. That’s why they are doing this. The trading post is cheaper to do then a good idea like player-housing.

My account has been active since mid-BC, save maybe a month or two. Where are my ‘special’ rewards for being a loyal player?Anyone could, with enough money, buy any of the TCG items from 3rd parties. That’s not loyalty, loyalty is a system that gives things based on how many months/years your account is active.

I’m a WoW vet. I also have TCG items, including the Rooster mount.

I don’t, and won’t, feel so bereft if people start getting things that I’ve had and have been using for ages now.

They could solve this quite easily by not bringing such collector items back and actually creating new ones.

In think in some regards the longevity of your subscription is what leads to having those special things, like me being able to afford a Magic Rooster mount from the AH at 215,000g when today that same mount would probably be 20,000,000g and completely out of reach… until Blizzard decides to just give them away for “watching” a Twitch stream that is lol

There is no reason for them to respond. We know exactly how they feel, based on their actions.

In any case, I don’t think killing a mob hundreds of times over a period of weeks to get a chance at a reward constitutes “giving it away”.

As the proud owner of one of the rarer mounts in the game (Brewfest Ram), I fully support giving players an opportunity to obtain old things

Mage Tower comes to mind. Why havent we had any new mage towers to collect appearances. I loved the challenge of unlocking an appearance without need of a group. Sure, they gave us tmog recolors but they fan do so much more with that idea.

As somebody who doesn’t have it…I do not support such things. hah

As someone with many removed items

Should just add a troll vendor called Ray’muvd Eytems

Sell all the removed items for like 5 copper each

Because other players being allowed to have things is more important than protecting someone’s ability to say “Hey, I was there!”

It’s been 15 years. You’ve had plenty of time to say “Hey, I was there!”
