Why are WQ pet battles not as trivial as other WQs?

Why are WQ pet battles not as trivially easy as other WQs? It seems to me that I ought to be able to grab any lvl 25 pets that are strong against the enemy pet type, and basically have a quick easy win (like any other WQ). But more often than not, I lose.

Why is this way? Pet battles take longer than any other WQ type simply because I have to make repeated attempts. It’s frustrating and just makes me angry at the devs every time I have to do it.

I don’t even really like the concept of battling pets (I hate pokemon), but doing it is required to get pet tokens, which are required to get cool looking pets, which I do like.

Pet battle WQs are actually the fastest WQs I do, which is why I specifically do them over a few days instead of the others. The non-pet WQs this expansion are incredibly tedious, and take far longer than ones of previous expansions. None of the other WQs take less than 2 minutes to complete, as far as I’m aware, except maybe one or two.

You might want to take a look at strategies on sites like Wowhead or Xu-Fu’s (wow-petguide). There are plenty of options there for general strategies that don’t take very long.

That said, the battles themselves are more difficult this expansion than last as far as just clearing a WQ, mostly due to the stats some of the enemy pets are rocking, as well as a fair number of stun abilities. However, there are plenty of strats that work well if you know where to look, or utilize the scaling system.

Pets aren’t all equal. If they were, that would make for a very dull game mechanic. There’s supposed to be some difficulty in figuring out what pets work best against what. It’s not supposed to be just straight Rock/Paper/Scissors.

Its like this. Most World Quests are trivial for you, you say, and that’s a little sad, cause trivial gets boring. But, They are only trivial because you know what you’re doing. You understand, you have experience, know-how, you know what it takes to successfully play your Class.
Most World Quests for you are walk-throughs, no brainers.
That’s how I see World Quest Pet Battles. Easy.
I understand you not caring much for the play-style, but really, these quests aren’t hard.

Once you find a strategy that works on the WQ battles, which never change, you save the teams so that the next time, it won’t take repeat attempts.

If you’re having serious difficulty getting through some of them, then tell us which ones, so we can suggest strategies or give you links to some.

At this point, I have almost all of them figured out, and they’re easy peasy once you’ve gotten your strats down on them. If you find yourself failing them a lot and having to heal the pets & repeat, then you probably need to change up what you’re doing until it’s smoother.

I will sometimes let a calling sit all three days and complete it with just pet WQs because they’re so fast and easy, so if you feel like it…give us details and some folks will come suggest things to help you make it faster.

First things first:

*Every pet you use on these should be 25 and rare
*If you get the add-on Rematch, it will help you to save a team once you’ve got the strategy down and then you can load it with one click by targeting the WQ battle master. It’s worth getting and will keep you from ever having to remember what pets you won with last time.
*If a strategy you’re using fails as often as it wins, it’s a bad strategy and you could probably swap in different pets or different skill configurations to make it faster and easier.

About half of the WQs this expansion are like Mechagon hard (some of those were rough), but the other half are easy to literally one-shot with a single pet. I have three that I kill with just one pet, and two of those are just three rounds long. On the other hand, there are two in Maldraxxus that took me a LONG time to find the 100% guarantee teams that mean I’m not pulling hair out, anymore.

It takes some tweaking, but once you’ve got them all down, it’s cake.

I like companion pets, hate Pokemon, and am very very lazy. So I use a different tactic to get Polished Pet Charms: Battle For Azeroth Missions. Unlike Legion vs BFA, Shadowlands uses the same pet token currency as BFA.

About 1 out of 3 times, one of the available BFA follower missions gives you 15 pet tokens as a reward. If you have the right followers available, that amount is approximately doubled. And if you have a roster of alts, you can park them by the table in Boralus or Zandalar and quickly log in and check every morning. Now that Shadowlands has started, there’s really nothing else to spend War Resources on.

I like using Rematch with pet battle WQs. once I find a team that works for me I save it so it pops up automatically next time.

No other type of World Quest warrants having to tab out to search a website for a strategy. (A strategy that may involve pets I don’t even have.)

I realize you’re trying to be helpful (and thanks for that). That said, I still see absolutely no justification for Blizzard’s overtuning of a World Quest.

The idea of having to remember which pets I used seems so unreasonable for a World Quest, when other WQs don’t require it. And finding the correct combination takes unreasonable amounts of time (for a WQ).

It’s all of them.

The only way I ever succeed is by getting lucky with some crits. I probably have about 3 of each pet-type at lvl 25, so it’s not like I have enough good pets to be choosy.

WQ shouldn’t require this much luck, time, or collection (of pets) IMO.

Does this mean you never check Wowhead to figure out WTF you’re supposed to be doing with all the unexplained and buggy WQs ?

Disclaimer here, I suck at some of these WQs. Outside Blizzard’s target demographic, elderperson who has enjoyed game for years but lack the reflexes to survive current raids and dungeons and some of the nastier WQs out there that are totally non-trivial for me.

I found easy solution, skip those. Meantime I’ve built a good enough pet collection and use online research and the Rematch add-on, so for me the Pet Battle WQs are piece of cake. I don’t ask Blizzard to make the other WQs easier for my playstyle.

There is a Add-On, called Rematch, by Gello. It is a work of art, and will remember your past Pet Battles for you. (and thats the tip of the Iceberg. TY, Gello)
Hey, is it not so, that lvl1 battle pets can be used in these WQ?
So, use lvl1 pets, when they level up to where you have to start thinking, set them free and go buy some more lvl1’s.

They’re not overtuned. Battle pets are like gear, if you don’t have the pets to handle the fight, then it’s just like trying to kill a boss without good enough gear - you fail. Know what I do when I get to a WQ that I can’t do? I go and level up the pets I need to do the fight, and then I come back. In other words, I “git gud”.

Pet WQs are by far the easiest and fastest WQs. They’re arguably undertuned once you have the teams set up for each one. Rematch saves them and autoloads them when you go to the WQ. You can save notes of the exact abilities to use in the exact order (or you can go get them from Xu-Fu’s). You can even use tdBattlePetScripts to bind the exact order of abilities to a single button that you can sit back and spam.

Saying they’re over-tuned because you don’t have the pets is like me saying I can’t do the PVP WQs because I get slaughtered every time. I lack the gear and experience to make them efficient, but that doesn’t mean they’re over-tuned, it means I’m under-prepared.

There’s quite a difference between the way you’ve geared up your character and the way you’ve put together your pet collection. Very few of your 44 leveled pets are particularly useful.

If you want pet battles to be easy, collect and level the pets which make them easy. There are plenty of suggestions on the net, particularly wow pet guide, to give you guidance on each battle.

If you spend the same time getting pets and learning how to pet battle as you spent gearing and leveling enough to trivially do the world quests you will have absolutely no trouble - with very few exceptions - with pet battle world quests …

Unless you’re going after familiar achievs or don’t know what you are doing its actually very easy. I don’t remember any of shadowlands pet battle being too hard and have at least 1 team with 100%ish win rate for all of’em.

Yeah, for me pet battle WQ is the quickest as i use addon ‘rematch’ and ‘TD script’.
