Why are Worgen on the Alliance?

EDIT: Because apparently this needs to be said, I know why from a LORE reason, I’m asking why from a gameplay perspective.

Never really thought about it back when they first released but why were the Worgen placed in the Alliance? We know Blood elves were put on the Horde to try and fix the dwindling number population at the time but what was the reason for Worgen?

Gilneas was originally in the Alliance before the Second war

Wasn’t asking for a lore reason, I know all that. I’m asking why were a pack of savage werewolves placed on the Alliance, the Civilized faction? I mean you could make up whatever lore that made sense for it at the time. Blizzard does it all the time, look at the Draenei.

Because through a ritual they regained their consciousness and sense of morality. You go through it in the worgen starter questline.

The Worgen are Gilneas human that were cursed. I dont understand how you arent putting this together.

Because…

they were fighting against the edgy goth Avril Lavigne wannabe “FOR THE HORDE” shouter and the Alliance needed some furries? Because… We didn’t have enough furries?

That’s what I’m going with at any rate.

Id say it was a way to add some grit to the alliance without taking away what makes the alliance the faction it is.

So if you like monsters, the alliance now has some appeal to it. Only youre a monster thats a human and wears a fancy top hat.

Because the Alliance didn’t have a savage monster race yet. Just like how Blood Elves were given to the Horde as a conventionally attractive race.

Again, I know the lore reason behind it I’m asking why from a gameplay perspective.

Thank you all. I’ll accept these answers.

Probably should’ve put that in your orginal post then if you were basically asking why did the Alliance get a furry race.

I thought I did. Apparently not.

Well Gilneas was originally part of the Alliance.
It was the Night Elves who helped the Gilneans with our Worgen problem and then Helped when the Forsaken attacked us. And we certainly wouldn’t join the Horde after they attacked.
Yes we are a bit more gnarly than the average Alliance race but we are Humans nonetheless. And it’s not like we have no control.

Gameplay wise, it’d be a bit odd putting two Horde capitols right next to each other.

Goblins released alongside Worgen right? Aren’t both basically homeless?

Gilneas is in a weird limbo where the writers can’t decide if it’s inhabitable or not. Gobs at least have that one decent sized town in Azshara.

Because Blizzard felt Alliance needed a “monstrous” race.

Which is silly, cause we got gnomes instead of Furbolgs because the devs felt Alliance shouldn’t have the “monstrous” races.

What I can find is “a wizard did it”. Maybe the battle against the Wolfcult in Grizzly Hills with Argul just inspired the dev team?

This is the part that bothers me, Horde are the Monster race, why did Alliance need a monster race? To compete with Blood elves? Whole things a hot mess.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume the Alliance could have used a more monstrous race at the time to appeal to that demographic of people who wanted to play the blue side.

There’s nothing wrong with both sides having a little bit of everything.

Blood Elves were introduced to the Horde because an unspecified region in Asia wanted a “pretty” race to play with their partners on the Horde. That’s all we know.

There’s a reason Alliance were mad when BEs were added to Horde. Cause they were an Alliance race prior to BC Lol.

I assume a similar thing was done for Worgen - players wanted a non-pretty race to play as Alliance.

Though we also didn’t need the demonic chihuahuas we had for female worgen for a decade.
