I really enjoy games with dynamic weather and day/night cycles. It has always been one of the things I really enjoyed about The Division and in Minecraft. I really wish WoW had better systems for these.
I can’t give you a good reason. But I think it has to do with sharding. So often the weather in WoW will change totally if we take one step. Like the dust storms in Vul’dun. Too often I was like ‘Wow, this weather looks gre-- and it’s gone.’ Or when it’s raining outside the Great Seal but soon as you walk out it’s sunny. I hate it.
I miss weather. I miss night. I wish Blizz would get this sorted and bring back this sort of immersive stuff.
I enjoy this as well. But as one of the older generations, I also feel there should be accessibility options for those with vision problems. Some cannot see well in dark cycles, others cannot see well in day cycles. There should be an option to make it permanent how one likes it or to be on the cycle that is standard. Weather had these types of options.
I agree too. Thing is, they can make day night cycles that are based on color not actual brightness. I remember old night in WoW. It was mostly just making the sky dark and then adding glow around windows and light sources and light cast on surfaces, like on the ground under lamps. The game wasn’t really darker. You could still see everything just as clearly, it was just sort of a different color palette.
But yeah, even then I think there should be, like, always day options for people who are more comfortable with that.
Heck, I think weather and day/night should be totally player side and not be tied to realm time or sharding. If a player wants it to be always day, fine. If they want the day/night to match their local time, fine. If they want day/night to be the opposite of their local time, fine. If they want the day/night to go twice as fast so they can see the in-game time changing, fine. If they want no weather, light weather, or heavy weather, fine. These should all be options in our interface menu.
It still exists in game, for example, each shadowlands zone has a unique weather effect: Bastion has a pollen fog, Maldraxxus sky become dark with weird lights flying, Ardenweald has a cosmic storm and Revedreadt has black rain.
Other places Like Kultiras have weather effects too. In Boralus Sometimes is snowing, sometimes is raining.
This is what i want back. I prefer day and night in game at the same time where i live. It was like this before, but since crossrealm was added, all realms of all americas started to use the same day/night cycle based on west coast time, where Blizzard is located.
Yep. The default weather is clear skies, with anything else being a relatively low percent change proc. That’s fine when everybody is on the old-style same server instance, because the system stays running long enough for weather to proc and be seen. In modern WoW the player is thrown between shards like a pinball and each shard has its own weather state, so the chances you’ll ever see weather are slim.
Supposedly weather effects have had their intensity ramped down at some point due to complaints which compounds this. It means when you run into rain in STV it’s mild showers instead of the torrential rains and lightning that zone used to get.
As over the top as this is, I kind of agree. Not that it’s unforgivable, that’s silly. But that it should be brought back. The reason it was done away with though is because people had been complaining about vision problems. Which, in my opinion, wasn’t a good enough reason to remove the weather.
I might be going nuts, but I don’t even notice when it’s night in Orgrimmar. It’s so oppressively bright and orange all of the time. I notice it especially due to the odd hours I play these days where SW is extremely dark by comparison.
