Kind of curious about this, I mean on the cosmology chart they are right next to each other.
I hate my neighbors too.
Life and Death | Light and Void opposes each other.
Truth be told there is a force in Death Planned to consume all.
This inaccurate rumor was started by BalularGaming.
If it were true, you was see Death Knights randomly exploding when putting on Saronite Armor.
I think you misunderstand the chart.
Just because two spheres are next to each other or near each other doesn’t means they’re similar.
Otherwise ‘Order’ wouldn’t be closer to ‘Shadow’ than it is to ‘Light’.
Sphere’s have been placed to their opposites and the ones to the side are there to show in which cases they have overlapped.
I dont believe Death and Void as a primordial force of the universe are opposed to eachother, there forces have there own desires yea but they’re not opposed.
The thing we’re seeing ingame since WotLK is that Undead namely Mindless Undead are immune to the tainting touch of the void ie the whispers, this is why the Lich Kings forces were decked out in Saronite ie the Blood of Yogg-Saron turned solid (think old god azerite).
This means Death is somewhat advantageous over the Void and the Void can use Death in its own advantages due to being closely aligned factors, this makes people within those two forces opposed ie Sylvanas vs Void sort of thing not because they’re opposing forces but because they’re co-optive forces.
To quote (sleepily) ‘To defeat thy enemy, you must know thy enemy’ or ‘Thy worst enemy, is thy ally’ and void/death are next door neighbors xP
EDIT: Also there is a formless entity within the realm of Death that desires to break free and consume all life, its a Sandury Loa with a hard to spell name that i wont be finding tonight.
You can be dead and still hate/resist The Void.
And also, you can be alive and hate/resist The Light.
No matter your state of being, no force in the universe can take away your thoughts and inner desires, or your will to survive. Your free will is yours alone.
Remember;
“CITIZENS OF DALARAN!..
…COLD LOGIC, HOWEVER, DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR THE POWER OF FREE WILL!”
Or more recently;
“I AM MY SCARS!”
Death is change.
Void is absence of everything.
Isn’t Life change and Death just entropy? (ie ending a life to allow another to begin sort of thing).
Wonder if we’ll see an Anti-Life expansion where we find a place with Life left unchecked without Entropy involved (i think DC or Marvel did that once with the Cancerverse).
Ending a life to begin another is change. Ending a life to become dead is change.
Guess its a ying and yang thing since the great cycle of being revolves around living and dying just for the cycle to begin anew, more so if reincarnation gets involved.
Reason I ask this is someone questioned why Void elves can be Death Knights in Shadowlands due to the opposing natures. I think I’m getting a better idea from everyone’s posts here.
My guess is the void wants to eat planets while death only wants souls?
The Void can not control Death and the Void fears what it can not control.
Well Shadow Magic, Death Magic and most recently (and immensely extreme rarely) Light Magic can create forms of Undeath, the only thing that cannot be created is an opposing form of magic whichs is why in Lore Lightforged Draenei cannot be Shadow Priests without basically killing themselves and why Forsaken are gravely injured when channeling the Light.
So a Void Elf Death Knight can make more sense than a Lightforged Draenei one whos basically gonna suffer more than a Forsaken Priest.
They could also be Subtlety Rogues and Affliction Warlocks as well.
I think it’s less that the void and death are innately opposed and more the void is against Sylvanas’ kill 'em all plan. The void thrives on possibilities. If everyone is dead there are no more possibilities.
Actually I did a bit of theorycrafting about LF Draenei awhile back, the basic idea borrowed from a racial the LF Draenei have that causes them to explode with Light energy upon death. The idea was on when the LF Draenei dies and all that infused light explodes out they are left empty husks that necromantic energies can reanimate. Whatever residual light energy that remained would be cancelled out by the death magic.
Thats actually something i could get behind as a Lore reason for LFD death knights but in the end thats basically just normal Draenei with not glowy tattoos, can bet Blizzard wont lift a finger to write that as a lore reason either given its an Alliance race lol. (anywho sleep time)
Because they may not be opposites, but their natures are in conflict.
Void wants constant change, all possibilities made true.
Death is the end of all possibilities.
