I don’t understand what Blizzard is doing. I feel like they really don’t want people playing fire spec. My fireballs would crit for 500k, meanwhile ice lance crits for around the same or more in PVP.
Fire is just so sub-par. There is no point in playing fire mage for any reason for PVP. And they struggle a lot in PVE until they get their tier. I don’t understand why Blizzard doesn’t improve the spec. It does not do damage at all, and it leaves a ton of people frustrated trying to play the spec.
Three reasons why Fire spells don’t hit as hard: ridiculously high Combustion uptime, increased instant-cast resources and Mastery: Ignite.
Despite the low(er) amount of damage each spell does, it’s compensated by quantity, and Fire is actually doing very decent damage overall and I’m having fun with it.
I’m from a time when mages used to do consistent, good and sustained damage. Combustion felt like an extra way to temporarily do more DPS. But now, it feels like we’re completely reliant on combustion and can’t kill anyone outside of its cool down. I think this is a really lame way to play when you’re completely reliant on cool downs to even compete.
PVE wise, in dungeons/raids with lots of mobs. Sure, you’ll climb the DPS charts doing AOE. But single targets, and without the tier pieces you will struggle. Which I noticed you have two pieces. What about the up and coming fire mages without the tier?
For PVP they’re completely gimped. Once all my fire blasts/phoenix flames have been expended and so has my combustion. My only option is to sit there and hard cast subpar fireballs - assuming I’m still alive by then. Meanwhile, frost mages get unlimited ice lances that crit for twice as much as hard cast fireballs. I don’t see how this makes sense.
I understand PVE wise we’re doing okay. Thanks for your response and educating me a little bit. But for PVP we are completely gimped. I don’t see any fire mages doing PVP at all. What’re your thoughts on fire mage PVP?

Honestly haven’t tried Fire PvP in a long time. I do know that Overpowered Barriers are doing a lot of damage though, even post-nerf.
One thing I feel like I need to mention is that since the rework of Freezing Winds, Frost can’t machinegun Ice Lances anymore without the AoE reset from Blizzard and Coldest Snap, so that’s really not happening in PvP. That’s not to say that Fire might not need some help in that department, since Glass Cannon talent was a poor way of giving it consistent damage without overreliance on Combustion and should really be rework too.
Yeah I dropped Fire for Frost in the PvP scene, we just have so little to do in PvP anymore.
Fire is ranked S tier its better this patch for PvE
Pvp Frost will always be better cause slows
