Why are there so many hunters?

There are so many hunters because there are so few choices for Ranged Physical DPS.

This is the reason they keep trying to re-imagine the hunter class to suit so many different fantasies.

They need another ranged physical DPS class.

Spec Type Count Class Specialization
Ranged Physical DPS 2 Hunter Beast Mastery, Marksmanship
Ranged Spell DPS 10 Mage Arcane, Fire, Frost
Warlock Affliction, Demonology, Destruction

Melee DPS 12 Rogue Assassination, Outlaw, Subtlety

Death Knight Frost, Unholy
Paladin Retribution
Demon Hunter Havoc

Druid Feral
Tank 6 Warrior Protection
Paladin Protection
Death Knight Blood

Dumb take. Hunter is popular because (a) archer, (b) pet class, and (c) ease of use. Another ranged physical dps spec and/or class would have barely any impact on the number of hunters playing.

You’re wrong, but that’s okay.

No, you’re wrong. I can do dumb too.

Psst! You forgot melee SV in the melee list.

How could anyone argue with that sort of persuasive logic?

I was matching his logic which was essentially, “You’re dumb.”

Had he provided anything substantive, I would have responded differently.

Instead, I chose to reply with the same level of effort and economy of thought he demonstrated.

Aren’t Paladins and Druids more popular than Hunters now?

Try reading it slower and maybe it will sink in.

Yes and have been, although it’s always close.

I believe they might be. That’s the reason I didn’t say, “The most popular class.”

In my opinion, they are popular for a different reason. It would likely be different if they didn’t have 3 or 4 different roles.

Hunters are popular because there are no other class that can fill the petless ranged archer or the magic-based archer roles. The devs keep trying to cram too many fantasies into the Hunter class.

I’m convinced this is the root of the problem.

You see……….

When a Mommy Hunter and a Daddy Hunter love each other very very much. Marksman eagles bring them lots and lots of baby Hunters……

The severe lack of logic it takes to make these statements is astounding.

Remove Outlaw and make the 3rd rogue spec a Ranger type class

Um… aren’t the hero specs Sentinel and Dark Ranger magic-based?

why didn’t you split melee DPS into physical and magic? or tanks?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I assume the OP meant the source of those classes’ DPS.

Mages, warlocks, and other casters do DPS via spells. Hunters do DPS via weapons (or pets, in BM’s case).

I considered classifying them as “casters” because casters have a very different “feel” than hunters. Melee feels comparative similar. I probably should have classified them that way.

an outlaw’s rogue damage (physical) is a lot different than a paladin’s (magical) or FDK (magical). I think to be fair it needs to be the same sort of split.

A Ranger’s ranged magic-backed DPS using a bow would be just as different, but I’m classifying them both as physical-ranged DPS.

If anything, you’re reinforcing my point that there is room for another bow class.

there’s just as much room for another dagger class, or a wand class, or an offensive shield class, etc
