The fact that every caster dps in a mythic raid suddenly loses 300+ dps because our mage or DH can’t make a raid is a joke. If both miss, 600 less dps, regardless of how people play, with absolutely nothing we can do about it.
It is literally a net dps gain to bench our top dps and bring a naked mage or DH that dies on pull. And that doesn’t even account for the benefit to healing.
Scrolls weren’t perfect, but they were at least something to lessen the impact of this useless game mechanic.
Edit: If you are wondering why they got rid of the scrolls and nerfed drums. It’s probably related to Blizzards comment on how they regret the philosophy of “bring the player, not the class”. They do (now) want you to bring the class and not the player. To a certain extent.
People like to feel like they are bringing something special to the group. It is fun to have a spell that benefits everyone. That is the whole point of a raiding party, not just a bunch of individuals going bonkers on a big target for 7 minutes.
If anything, I just wish at least 2 classes brought the buffs. I swapped to mage specifically because we lacked a mage for raid, and with a lot of casters we were missing out on a lot of group damage. If any other class brought it, or another brought it, you wouldn’t be forced to bring a mage (although they’re still a good class).
People wanted buffs back, but I think what most folks had in mind was the Wrath system where you typically had 3 classes that brought every buff or debuff.
Which took a little thinking and effort to make work, but wasn’t crippling if 1 key person was unavailable like it is now.
Here’s a quote of a blue post listing the full list of buffs/debuffs from 2008.
most dont even have a clue about what locks are now bringing. if it doesnt show up on the meters its not valuable to people, since thats the game they are really playing.
Ah right yes them too. Pretty much everything that will buff any of our stats except for Str and Agi benefits our dps, with health buffs being the weirdest dps buff. The peak silliness being using Rallying Cry as a DPS cooldown. Absolutely ridiculous and I’m 100% certain health scaling will cause demo locks to be busted and nerfed by the end of the expansion.
Shout — All phys
Intellect - All casters
Priest - All classes.
That’s it. That’s the entire buffing system in retail.
I miss the days of every class bringing something unique. And I loved synergies.
Affi lock + unhDK + Shadow priest. Oh my gosh. combowombo.
Mangle provided massive boost to warriors and rogues.
and so many many more combos and classes boosting each other.
All you got now is Windfury and Battle shout. That’s it. So lame.
So when comes to modern buff system, it srsly should just be a passive team buff. Everyone within 100 yards of warrior gets 10% AP, mage = intellect, priest - stamina… Sure, every class brings some sort of utility, but its not buffs. I like buff bar filled with 2 rows of icons. Its cool. Makes everyone feel like they are contributing!
It just felt good to have a lot of buffs. It made you feel powerful.
I don’t think this is really the issue, I think the issue more is not every class has something like it to bring (or they could just add these buffs to more classes). Like lust and brezes are on 3 classes or something now? Why don’t they do the same with buffs?
5% stam/int/strength/agility buffs each given to 2 classes to use. 5% physcial/magic damage taken debuffs both on 2 classes. Haste/crit/mastery buffs each on 2 classes so on and so forth so multiple classes give the same buffs so you’re much less likely to miss out on such big damage boosts.
