Mmm I doubt any empire would ever join a long time enemy. Doubly so after having thousands massacred.
Let’s ask the nightborne and the Dark Iron dwarves for some pointers on how to get over that.

Garithos was cruel to blood elves, even forcing Kaelthas to do carpentry work and criticizing the blood elves’ punctuality.
This did not affect Umbric and his purple blood elves, who were happy to win “a new shark” to associate with.
No one murder hobo’d The Devoted. The Horde helped stop Korthek and saved Sethraliss.
And the only faction that helped massacre an unknown amount of The Faithless was The Horde.
We blasted a good handful on Alliance. But canonically we really didn’t mess them up too badly.

Now that isn’t true as you provided other information.
My reasoning came from being linked to Alleria, not so much with Umbric. Alleria went Beyond the Dark Portal, especially since so much about the Void Elves were operating around her experiences when doing the recruitment scenario.
Admittedly, it has been a long time since I did the recruitment scenario and it can only be done once, nor am I as invested in the race, so I don’t remember as much of it.
Being wrong happens.
They are (at least our original stock) former Blood Elves.
Now that we have the new skin tones though folk can be those wayfarers and scholars that came to learn after. So some can be high elves readily enough.
Right? It’s not like we burned down their tree.
Can’t wait for Sethrak to be made playable.
