Why are shamans so squishy if we wear MAIL?

Mail is the 2nd highest armor in the game but my rogue and even my priest take less damage than my shaman. I play Enhance / Resto.

I do agree this is a issue
we are squishy that have gimp closer and no escape
top of that
why are we the only class in the game that can cast a physical damage spell as well

The fact that we wear the second highest armor class in the game is a bad argument in modern WoW. Armor these days doesn’t really mean too much unless you’re a tank. Most classes have some mechanic that allows them to regularly absorb X amount of damage or passively heal. Priests, for example, have ~20 - 26% DR through their armor, but also have Focused Will, which reduces damage they take by 15 x 2 when you get attacked in melee. Now that priest effectively has as much armor as a tank, on top of priests’ other defensive / healing ability.

Your current gear suggests that you’re at the lower end of the gear spectrum for 8.3 content. It’s going to be rough for any character. Get rid of Spirit Wolf unless you really can afford to wait 4 seconds for it to take full effect. It’s not going to help you in a fight. Earth Shield has always been strong for PvE content. It triggers very often, and that 10% affects your Healing Surge and any azerite traits that can heal you. Pack Spirit is good between fights, but go for Resounding Protection for a regular absorb shield, Impassive Visage (which your helmet has) for a secondary Earth Shield effect or, once you get comfortable with killing things quickly, Vampiric Speed is good for keeping your pace up. Don’t be stingy with your mana or cooldowns either.

Because it needs to be addressed. ENH Shaman have not been playable since S1 in BFA because their survivability was gutted with mana and healing surge nerfs. Even when it was good, we were still a great kill target because we only have 1 defensive.

If there was ever a time to make a push for this, now is it.

And PvP? We really only have 1 defensive cooldown. It’s solid enough on it’s own, but it can’t be used while stunned. Our totems and Hex can be used defensively, but it’s really hard to make that effective against someone who’s even remotely aware. Ghost Wolf these days seems to be a pseudo-defensive with Pack Spirit, the Spirit Wolf talent, and Spectral Recovery PvP talent. We don’t survive well on our own. You have to be very good about knowing when to run and kite when in a group, since once you’re discovered you’ll get singled out (because of how easy you are to kill), and when stick on a target for a kill.

I’m full aware of how bad the situation is. But if we got to this point with how bad it is, then they’re not going to do anything about it. If you want to make a push for PvP survivability changes then go to the Shadowlands Alpha forum. That’s where at least some of their attention is. They’re not going to address PvP survivability at the end of the expansion.

Obviously not. That wasnt the point of my post. You asked why so many posts about survivability, and I gave you the answer. Those of us without Alpah keys have no choice but to post in general forums with the hopes that someone with an Alpha key will take notice and push for it in Alpha forums as well.

If you are fully aware of how bad the situation is, then why do ask the question? The answer is obvious.

The only thing I’ve found that helped is a shield with its 10% block chance. Ele/ resto only

yeah, I’ve been pvping more as elemental (with a shield) … one gets really tired of being insta-focus-killed

shaman have poor defensive abilities (ank is considered one of them, awful but true) and lower health
