Why are Shadow Priests so terrible?

Are they ever going to get into a better position?

I want to play one but they are just so bad.

They were one of the meta specs for like all of Dragonflight.

Tuning wise they’re fine, design wise, they remain a dumpster fire and have been since day 1 of DF

could be a skill issue but I never played the spec because I find it boring

It sucks because the heroic tier set looks so good.

They’re fine. Their AoE having a cooldown is a bit frustrating

They’ve been a spec blizzard has had issues having feel good for a while.

PVE wise.

PVP, I’ve found them to be decent at least full time. BG wise anyway. I’ve not made a major goal to dance around columns in arena.

…and? Whats that got to do with present?

More like since Legion.

The last iteration of shadow that was fun to play and good was Legion Surrender to Madness. Blizzard saw fun was detected and completely gutted and eventually removed Surrender when the problem with why surrender damage scaled so high wasn’t the talent itself but synergy from mass hysteria stacks, an artifact trait, while you were in void stacking out of control. A high risk , high reward, high skill cap spec and they gutted it, and surrender has since been removed.
Before that, it was orb build with insanity and cascade in Dreanor that was quite good fun. Every other iteration of shadow is just terribly designed. Coming from someone who mained shadow since the days devouring plague was an undead racial.

Shadow Priests are bad because they insist on worshiping the Old Gods, beings that we roflstomp every other day.

They should instead worship the one true king, Shadow the Hedgehog.

It’s in the name…

Their design has been going downhill since the Legion rework, imo. Blizz just doesn’t know what to do with the spec, except rework it every other patch.

-AoE being tied to a CD, hard capped at 8 targets (or realistically 12 if you precast VT)
-Little useful utility (Vampiric embrace, and halo healing, that’s it really)
-practically 0 mobility
-45 second interrupt cooldown, (and god forbid you’re a healer priest, enjoy having no interrupt!)
-both hero talent tree options force talent choices
-An absurd amount of tax talents (Class wide issue again, class tree has i believe 8? and spec tree 6? 2 point nodes, Silence also requires a second talent point just to have a worse cooldown than almost every other interrupt in the game
-Our stop is extremely unreliable, they either break instantly, run the risk of running into other things, unless you take tax talents ofc!
-Angelic Bulwark is again, class wide, and probably the worst cheat death i’ve ever seen, 15% HP shield at 30% HP, 90 second CD, goes away after 20 seconds, Shaman Gets the same thing, but it heals them instead of temporarily shielding, heals for 5% more , and has half the CD
-This is the mobility issue again but i remain actually angry that they consider “Leap of Faith” our “mobility cooldown” when you get an evoker buff

there’s a lot more, but these are just the basic issues Shadow (and really, priest as a whole) have suffered for a while now, they haven’t given our talents a onceover since DF launch, we just got some mind games replacements and tuning throughout patches, but they haven’t fixed our tax nodes, and they haven’t replaced stuff that just doesn’t work with stuff that does.

they’re not so bad

They’re one of the worst specs tuning wise, near the bottom, and they’re nerfing their aoe which wasn’t really needed

Honestly pi just needs to be self cast only

it’s even funnier because that aoe nerf is somewhat offset for archon because halo’s getting 6% more damage and is a big contributor for them

but voidweaver, who was already behind Archon? they just got kicked in the nuts and spit on by that psychic link nerf since they rely on it to do most of their aoe for them

My wife soooooo wants vw to be better, but they kick it while it’s down lol
