hardstuck at like 65 Blacksmithing.
Nothing I can make gives me skill ups (except items which require 300 Artisans Gatedust) that don’t require a Spark, I can’t learn anything new.
I don’t get it, what am I missing? The Patron Orders want me to 4-5star craft, which I can’t do. Seems like there is something missing from this system.

Only spark gear will get you higher. You need to choose the right path. This is no different than DF.
I opened tools, weapons and the everburning thingy on my bs, in time I will make weapons and tools for my alts and maybe some commissions after I have unlocked the missives and embellishes on them. Its not a 2 day thing, just like DF was not a 2 days thing.
With regard to Blacksmithing specifically, unlock the Everburning Forge specialization ASAP. You’ll be able to make Everburning Ignition to easily get to 90-95 skill. It’ll take a few days as there’s a two hour cooldown, but you can store up to five crafting charges. The downside is it does take one acuity per craft. The good news is the Darkmoon Faire starts this weekend, so you can get another skill boost there (it’s like +5 iirc).
This is actually slightly easier than it was in Dragonflight; you had to make spark gear after a certain point in BS to make any headway on skill.
if you are hardstuck at 65 black smithing then you went down the wrong side tree. should be able to get to 95 without issues.
If you didn’t unlock everburning ignition, then another option besides spark equipement/profession equipment is to make Sanctified Alloy ( https://www.wowhead.com/item=222423/sanctified-alloy
). It goes all the way to 80 allowing you to unlock the final spec for everburning ignition at 75. I had to do this and it wasn’t too bad. I spent some time in hallowfall farming the tinderboxes needed (you can also farm gold and just buy them or do certain delves for them).
There shouldn’t be a “wrong side tree”, since we’re not able to respec and fix things. All trees should be capable within a reasonable timeframe, or those recipes/abilities should be made baseline.

you can have access to everything eventually. it literally take a few points to get the sub specialization im talking about but then again its blizzards fault that they didnt do 5 mins of research before blasting their points in.
Again, if you need to follow a set progression path to do it properly, then the system is designed poorly. You shouldn’t need to do any research.
The whole system is just poorly communicated and there’s no effort to on board or explain anything.

How are people 100 blacksmithing then?
Yeah it’s like 14k to craft ONE of those right now. And they sell for… 2k. So that’s not really an option unless you have millions of gold or something…I did not go into that weird ignition thing, it didn’t make sense and seemed useless when reading what it does. I am Fine Armor into Belts/Wrist/Gloves.
One thing I can’t really stop recommending is go into wowhead, go to the Database
menu and pick the Professions & Skills
menu and then pick your prof and look at all the patterns and see which ones go to 100 and the tooltips will teill you where they come from. (EX: https://www.wowhead.com/skill=164/blacksmithing )
Doesn’t help you now on BS (I made the same mistake so don’t feel alone), but for the future, take a second to pop in there and check on it for any of your other profs.
As for the alloy. You shouldn’t need millions of gold, you only need 5-10 skill points to get to 75 from 65, depending on what patron orders you get lucky with). I didn’t buy stuff off the AH, I just ran around hallowfall and snagged up the tinderboxes from chests as I mined ore (grabbed a couple more today). I did a couple of patron orders as well. It stinks but it is just one of those things where you have to throw either money or time at it (whichever you value less). However, I still feel that having a gold/time option is way better than not having any option.
you dont have to do the set progression path but if you dont the other path is focused on work orders so it will be slower or faster depending on how many you get. basically your using ignorance as shield for something that could have easily been avoided. i happen to really like the profession system and use it to my advantage making lots of gold throughout the expansion.
I’ve been using the old site wow-professions.com - they have a suggested pathway to get to 90+ for all crafting professions without crafting orders. Im also getting some points from the patron orders. The darkmoon faire opens this weekend - the profession quests there give a couple of levels for every profession and 3 kps (but no aa).
Oh yeah wow sure just craft Sanctified Alloy and Everburning Ignition (Which I don’t know how to make!) for 12k a pop in order to maybe get some skill ups! Real useful. Let me just go buy 1,000,000 gold real quick hold on I need to swipe

They need to go back to traditional profession leveling. Like in WoTLK, Cata. I’m over crests and profession equipment. Having to proc recipes, etc.

For real.
Let me learn a profession, let me choose a specialization. Let me make items. Let me farm ore/materials, and let me play the game.
I have had it with this time gating arbitrary nonsense garbage.

Honestly. I feel if you did as much time learning about professions as you did complaining about them, that you would be in a much better spot.
It’s also optional. If you don’t want to craft, that’s fine. There are plenty of us that do.

There is nothing to learn, you just wait.

The crafting system in wow has so much potential but it seriously hindered by having “traps” that you can fall into early on.
Taking skinning/leather working for example.
Oh you decided to go for lures instead of refining leather/chitin? you are now forced to purchase r3 materials to complete the patron work orders.
You didn’t put 10 points into flawless fotes and then learn nerubian nous? Good luck getting to 90+ skill without dumping massive amounts of gold on the ah for very rare materials.
Freedom of choice is granted, but there is always a couple few correct choices and then a lot of wrong choices that screw you over. This wouldn’t be so bad if 1.) the patron work orders were less harsh or based on what you’re currently able to do. and if 2.) All paths were created equally or have value. I have dumped massive amount of points into reagents this expansion and still can’t r3 most of them without concentration. Even when running max rank materials. It’s a bit insane.
For example with lures again, If you choose to focus on infused lures as a skinner, then the rewards from those items should be just as useful as r3 leather/chitin. but they’re just not. Infact the materials you get from lures are so easy to get without lures that it makes impressive infuser just a bad choice. Trained tracker is only good because it offers unique materials required for certain gear items. Infusing with Crystalline powder or viridescent spores only gets you 1 or 2 more of the material you spent to infuse the lure.
It’s just a bad choice compared to everything else and you see these pitfalls across every profession.
I’d also like to add on to this. Time-gated profession progression really does feel awful. If this system existed without so much time-gating, it would just be more fun. Knowledge is gated, getting to 100 is gated unless you make one or two specific choices with knowledge, artisan acuity is heavily time gated. Some time-gating makes sense, like with knowledge points, but we don’t need such a hard cap on it that we have currently. If I want to farm artisan’s to learn recipes then let me do it. If I am close to being able to complete a patron work order but can’t because of time-gating then that feels like crap.

Yeah it really just feels awful and takes the winds out of my sails completely. I have pretty much entirely lost interest in the entire crafting system.
And, gathering is OUT THE WINDOW now entirely. I leveled my warrior from 70-72 specifically from gathering Ore/Herbs while using the Phial of Bountiful Seasons and a Sky Golem. I sold everything at normal market price - nothing was undercut or devalued or anything like that, and I only got like 50k gold.
I could farm herbs/ore for 5 hours, or I could swipe once and get infinitely times more gold per hour.
So now I not only have 0 interest or desire in the entire crafting aspect of the game, but the entire gathering pillar of the game is entirely dead as well.
Nice game Blizzard.
