I just went to start a new Nelf and as I have done every other time in the past, I went to the portal to get to SW to level in Goldshire because I like that area better. But NOW they have a restriction on the portals and no more boats from Darnassus so I am forced to level to 10 here.
While it’s not that much of a nuisance it is just not necessary to even restrict the portals? What possible reason is there to stop people from going to different areas to level? I thought the whole point of recent changes was to make it so we can choose where we level.
So why the restriction now? Just more of Blizzard trying to stop any fun?
The reason I like to go there is because there are more high level players there and I can use the transmog to get out of the ugly heirloom gear.

There’s no telling what the reason is why they do most of the things they do. These things always come off as petty to me.

I miss traveling in WoW. We lost some of the adventure of the game with portals everywhere.
I didn’t know that this was a thing. I imagine it has something to do with bots or advertising more than slowing players… But who knows
If I had to guess I would stay it is level 1 bot related.

I think you can still use a mage portal. I would be willing to log onto my mage and port you to Stormwind. If I needed to.
Or they assumed everyone would use Newbie island and be 10 by the time the got done. That is kinda weird to level lock the portals. I don’t even see it stopping bots as they can level anywhere and if it’s advertising then just roll a level 1 of whatever race belongs to the city they are posting in.

Rule of thumb: if there’s a restriction that doesn’t make sense, it’s likely because someone discovered an exploit or had a bot abusing it.

I have no issues with taking a boat or an FP. But when they replace the boat with a portal, then for no reason block its use for anyone under level 10, that is just plain petty and stupid!

ok except I can still access trade in darnasus at level 1 so the bot issue is moot.

I had not noticed this, as I tend to like to level in certain starting areas over others. I have several accounts, so I just port myself or fly myself to where I need to be. Not sure how it would curb anything in relation to chat, you can go to a city which is linked to all major cities anyway.

It is probably a moot point for you now, but should you have this problem on another character all you have to do is go to the Temple of the Moon. There are 2 portals by the entrance. The one farthest from the door goes to The Exodar It is NOT restricted to level 10. It ports you in right by the Exodar portal to Stormwind which is also NOT restricted to level 10. I just used them with a level 6 NE Hunter.
