Why are people so opposed to trash skips?

This obviously doesn’t apply to M+.

I’ve encountered multiple pugs this week who have argued for unnecessary trash pack clears in normal / heroic / M0 dungeons.

One of them even said “this isn’t M+ so let’s kill all trash”.

So my question is why? Trash skips save time - especially ones that don’t run the risk of accidental aggro.

Are they leveling? The mobs give decent xp if your group can handle 5+ at a time, especially if you’re rested.

In rando’s? Almost never.
Someone facepulls, everyone wipes then of course some fool tries to “skip” again. Rinse and repeat instead of spending 30s killing the mobs.

if youre leveling finishing the dg as fast as you can is the best way to lvl

I’m curious about that. Has anyone ran the numbers? It seems that the end of dungeon XP is only about 50k but these mobs can give me 1200 with rested xp. That is four extra pulls of ten/eleven, no?

I’d say there’s a few reasons:

  1. someone will inevitably pull stuff, even if we don’t think it’s possible
  2. people are leveling and trash is xp
  3. people just aren’t in a hurry

learn to skip trash will help in mythic key lvls
like the bastion one with the marowgar clone

rested xp on retail ? o.o

Time that we aren’t going to run out because this isn’t a Mythic+ run and can be allowed to be through with it. So unless 3-5 of us got somewhere important to be like work and such (and no, going another thing like PvP, pet battle or etc or just want to get it done in WoW doesn’t count), why rush at all then?

I don’t trust PuGs to not body pull things anyways.

Yes, I am talking about retail. IIRC classic does not offer the random queue end-of-dungeon xp. I don’t think it has queues either.

the xp for completion in random queue + aid quests

I always have somewhere more important to be than pug dungeons LOL. It’s just a means to an end.

If it’s something important of yours has to do with WoW, then it’s not really that important. It can wait.

Because it almost never works out? lol, it used to work, when the devs weren’t wise to trash skipping, but now when you try, someone ALWAYS butt pulls. Always. Because the devs learned to place trash in places you can rarely skip. I’d rather fight trash willingly than as a last resort because someone couldn’t toe the hairline fracture that is “the correct path for skipping.”

Unexpected trash pulls cause wipes, and when you were “trying to skip,” it only causes problems within the group because ppl are mad someone “messed up,” when really, the mobs are just very hard not to pull… the new dungeons are designed that way, and even some of the old. Like Magister’s Terrace? lol, good luck skipping mobs in there. U will die, unless your healer is god tier.

It’s really not in SL. Time/XP is much better running the storyline quests and the optional quest.

That used to be true. I instance leveled in BfA just fine. But the math on XP per (not-the-daily-random) instance runs is way off what you get through other methods.

They all run the risk of accidental aggro. Pugs are stupid and will pull across the dungeon.

I always just do the skip and expect someone to pull anyway. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised. Mostly I’m not. It’s not like dungeons are remotely difficult anyway.

I rather put my … in the meat grinder then to the campain again so dg spam it is

There’s no need to skip anything in a normal or heroic when everything will just fall over and die instantly. Even with mythic0.

Mythic+ sure, but everything else? There’s really no reason to worry about skipping at all.

This ^

People expect a certain amount of finesse out of 4 other random people they don’t know to pull off these skips. They seldom work.
