Why are people ? Covid-19

That’s silly, it hasn’t been just an overseas problem since jan.

Can you believe all of this just started with a cruise ship a couple weeks ago?

That was only part of it, first case was actually a dude who visited Wuhan.

On January 19, 2020, a 35-year-old man presented to an urgent care clinic in Snohomish County, Washington, with a 4-day history of cough and subjective fever. On checking into the clinic, the patient put on a mask in the waiting room. After waiting approximately 20 minutes, he was taken into an examination room and underwent evaluation by a provider. He disclosed that he had returned to Washington State on January 15 after traveling to visit family in Wuhan, China. The patient stated that he had seen a health alert from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the novel coronavirus outbreak in China and, because of his symptoms and recent travel, decided to see a health care provider.

It’s because there isn’t enough tests, they are the most suspect.

We first heard about it when the cruise ship came back. Hard to think that two weeks ago i was just going “coronavirus? that’s just another flu, can’t be bad”, they forgot the SARS and death part though and infectiveness though.

Man so weird looking just 2 weeks back when the companies were being seen as harshly reacting with a -10% cut on travel. Now everything’s locked down. If it’s just zipped back up defeats the whole point of it all, if it’s opened and let out it’d be a one way valve though. You can’t put the cat in the bag once you’ve let it out.

you seem somewhat deluded.

what don’t you understand about exponential growth?

numbers are going to double, quadruple, and continue to rise in ever increasing numbers until people get it into their fat heads that this is highly infectious.

in most places, testing rates are going down because it’s not realistic to keep testing people who “may or may not” be positive.

getting worse (which it will, by far) means choosing who gets to live.
choosing who gets access to the limited number of respirators.

They’re only counting positive tests in the number, US has started ramping up testing in a lot of areas so numbers are going to soar.

Theres over 300k positive tests worldwide but that number is realistically well over a million.

And yes, that is what Triage means, good job.

Also, on a side note (unrelated to you) Spain is having so many deaths they’re putting bodies in the skating rinks because the funeral homes are full.

in a standard hospital setting, that’s not the standard use of the term “triage”.

they generally don’t yank someone off a respirator, because someone else is 2 years younger and may have a better outcome.
…and it shouldn’t come down to that, but it will.

straight out of the movie “pandemic”.

of course they are.
i haven’t seen anywhere which denotes the number of tests carried out.
…if a test isn’t positive, there’s nothing to report… so i’m not sure of the point of that comment :stuck_out_tongue:

CDC has a list somewhere of total tests per day, but i can’t be bothered to find it.

nope, only tests done in the US.

there’s a whole world out there…

Meant us tests, who would be who to look for for worldwide tests

Many things in this World, obey the supply and demand law above all else.

Why all the black markets and illegal things are offered ? Because there are those who seek it.

Why people make sensational news, because many people like it.

But given the fact that we see many people “crowding” their lives as if nothing was happening, I guess they downplay it to the same extent too.

Hourly workers still have to work, unless you’ll pay me the same.

I have to pay for food and lodging, not having an " in case of plague" contingency fund.

do you know what the “W” in WHO stands for?

I’m really glad people flagged this OP. He’s another example of someone purposely attempting to share and spread his personal hysteria.

Keep calm and take care of yourself, your family, your friends, and your neighbors in what ways you can. Keep sight of the good things. We will get through this.

There are doctors in Italy catching this after caring for infected patients in overcrowded hospitals and this guy thinks its out of hand crazy to have to check a couple stores for TP?

While I understand that this is still a serious thing that needs to be tackled, there is indeed some over exaggerating going regarding the subject, media is portraying the Coronavirus like it’s Black Death 2.0 to such a degree that we have people fighting over toilet paper like primitives and abusing market staff over it and just acting like it’s the End Times from Warhammer. Media has only ever reported on the number of infected and death cases, I haven’t seen them report on the people who have survived or recovered from it.

Now finally… It’s our chance. Tell them the Coronavirus grants the sick people all gender bathrooms and the only way to stop the spread is to stop buying chemstream toilet paper that turns the Coronavirus into a virus.

Then you’ll see them fight over coronavirus toilet wars for hours while operation secure tp continues! :stuck_out_tongue: Followed by operation pneumonia. At least people can’t hoard air.

But srsly though if they cared about coronavirus half as much as we care about some silly stuff out there it could do a whole lot of good for the hand washing and stop eating stuff that’s left unattended on a greasy gas station rack for 48 hours. Even outside of pandemics those things are nasty yo.

chemistry and biology dual major with a focus on medicine. unfortunately circumstances in my life derailed it considerably, but I’ve never lost the interest nor the rigor.

The amount of people who are about to get a rude awakening at the complexities of the immune system, and the wonders of the ability of the lungs to provide oxygen to blood so it can transport oxygen around their bodies… also seems to be staggering.

I’m not exactly sure why so many of the people here are attempting to downplay this.
Oxygen is a fun thing for people who like to breathe.
I can only assume these people hate life so much, that they’re happy to not breathe.

Being stuck on a ventilator frightens me a whole lot less than the idea of cytokine storm syndrome.
