I see some paladin players saying things like “it’s okay to nerf the damage but why destroy an entire play style i.e. stacking”.
What?! Since when are Rets overpowered in terms of damage? They are bursty, to be sure. And a lot of horde have been complaining about getting one shot in PVP but what they don’t tell you is they are running around in 2-3k hp and expect to roll over others with that so it’s just not coming from a place of honesty.
But when it comes to pve DPS how can you say that even that needs a nerf? In naxx I just looked at the average DPS, and ret is middle of the pack, with 50% average being one of the LOWEST, when Rets should be a little over-inflated given its naxx with undead bosses.
We are simply accepting that not only will they torch one or two whole play styles, but also straight up nerf the damage as well? Why accept that? Where is the evidence?
As for PVP I’d love to actually see what the horde are talking about. You can make a snarky comment about being one shot but if we actually look at each case of these supposed unavoidable one shots you begin to realize it’s not actually an issue with the ret at all and they are the ones who didn’t come prepared with proper PVP gear or playing with even some pretty basic strategies to defeat the ret. I would be happy to lay out exactly how you can beat a bis geared ret in any class if you really can’t think of a way to do it yourself. I’m happy to help.
In full BiS we were simming around 16k previously on the top-end as a twister – stacking was actually slightly higher on 60 second fights. This damage was fairly high in comparison to the average at the time.
A nerf of some sort was warranted, but it didn’t have to be to our existing T2 sets or rotations/playstyles. As a result we’re now toward the bottom of progression DPS, logging in on Tuesday will feel pretty awful.
Changes should have been made exclusively to newer bonuses/gear in my opinion – these sort of uninspired retroactive adjustments feel very negatively “modern” for a Classic™ game mode.

Pretty sure the sims were showing that the new gear itself was still being ran with a bunch of T2 still. They want people to branch away from the 4P T2.
Yes and I fundamentally disagree with that. Classic is full of cases where you use gear from previous content and having new gear should be alternative, not always objectively an upgrade. This just makes it so previous gear becomes worthless.

Yes classic has always been about using gear from previous raids. To retroactively gut previous raid gear feels so bad, especially in a game mode that seems to be doing everything it can to keep old raid tiers alive. Blizzard please.

Just as a thought process, but certain set bonuses have been baked into the scarlet tierset. Not sure why ret tier cant have t2 2pc and 4pc in t4.
Agreed, just make it part of the set and let us choose a few different dps sets?
Yes, I get that, but… we’re also not on Classic as much as an altered version of it, being SoD, where as that mindset shouldn’t have even stuck around in the first place.
Obviously an opinion take on my end.
I liked that they made Tiers great and people wanted their bonuses instead of mix matching a bunch of gear but at the same time if they didn’t do anything (like now), we end up 3 tiers (2.5, 3, 3.5) later where an early tier is STILL the Meta one.
Again, my take isn’t about “How Classic works” as much as “How SoD works”.
If Naxx was the final Tier/Raid in this version then this change wouldn’t make sense, but seeing as how we are going further with content, something had to be done.
