Why are my WQ rewards different?

I finished the leveling campaign on my gatherer druid. I then leveled this mage and it’s what I play most.

I unlocked WQ on the druid but the exact same world quest offers the mage gold and the druid is offered green gear that is useless.

What is going on? I assumed the warband concept was to use your warband across meta quests. I can’t even unlock the earthen on this mage. My druid is showing 2/5 chapters for the max level campaign.

I have no clue how world quests rewards relate to being able to unlock earthen

That’s the difference in the 2 characters’ quest log. The druid shows the chapters for the max level campaign. The mage does not. I thought it might be a clue as to why my mage was getting gold WQ and the druid gear for the exact same WQ.

Sorry but I think this is one that only the design team can give you a real answer on.

Gotta love games with unknown unposted rules. It like every Tuesday chess players got move pawns like knights but no one knows but 2 or 3 guys who win all day tuesday.

It’s always been like that

I recall the same.

Back in DF I would see a reward on Hunter 1 and think, Oooooooh, I need that, so I log over to Hunter 2, not even remotely the same reward.

World quest rewards are random across all characters. They’ve literally always worked like that

Campaign progress is not shared across characters. You have to complete the whole campaign on one character in order to earn the achievement for it, and by extension unlock Earthen. You do not have to get all of the achievements on one character, however - you can do the campaign on one, do the side quests on another, etc.

Exactly like that, a 1 to 1 in fact.

They’re not truly random. At the start of this week I ran all my alts through the map just for the gear rewards to DE and each of them had the exact same quests available for the exact same items.

The only character on my account who deviates in their WQ rewards is this one, my main - they’re the only one I’ve actually leveled up and done the campaign with. As it is, the only real differences that seemingly arise from that are that a lot of the WQs that award gear on my alts award valorstones instead on my priest. Aside from that I’m not seeing any differences.

I have level 70 alts with entirely different rewards from the same world quests

go talk to brann in dornogal to skip to the max level campaign, that should let you start the quests to unlock earthen - as for world quest rewards, fairly certain they’re different for each character, for better or for worse

Thanks for the heads up.

You’re correct in that world quest rewards are not random, they are fixed when the world quest is created for the entire region. The rewards will update to a different reward based on two checks, but the updated reward is also not random.

  1. Your class and spec. If a world quest has a reward for weapons or trinkets, that weapon or trinket will change based on your current spec. (An outlaw rogue who sees a sword on a world quest reward will see a dagger if they change specs to Subtlety and /reloadui). If a world quest has a reward for a piece of armor, the reward will be for that same gear slot on other characters but for their armor class.

  2. Your total ilvl. World quests that reward gear will have a different reward if your ilvl is too high. World quest gear has a maximum ilvl. If your average ilvl is high and meets a certain threshold, the reward is replaced with a currency reward instead. A level 70 or fresh 80 will see gear on world quests; an experienced 80 will see gold or expansion currencies.

World quests for North American servers can be seen live with their base rewards on Wowhead. Any world quest currently giving out gear will show the gear slot. Wowhead does not show the replacement currency if your ilvl is too high; you have to check in game to know which currency has replaced the item.

Example of each:

  1. The world quest ‘Slay the Goo, Save the World’ on 9/16/24 in Azj-Kahet shows as dropping bracers on the Wowhead tracker. In game, my low ilvl level 80 mage sees blue cloth bracers. My level 70 rogue sees green leather bracers. My level 73 warrior sees green plate bracers. While the ilvl or quality changes between characters, the reward is still bracers.

  2. That same world quest on my high ilvl shaman shows 50 kej. On my high ilvl paladin it shows 50 kej. On my high ilvl druid it shows 50 kej.

As a second example, the Hallowfall world Quest ‘Sieging Siege Weapons’ is a cloak on the wowhead tracker, a green or blue cloak in game for all my low characters, and 34 valorstones on all my high ilvl characters.

Thanks for the accurate info. It’d be nice if they’d post a table at what Ilev this happens at.

appreciate the info

update nm - it was a lower than max character offered the gold reward

Would you possibly know why a world quest would reward resonance crystals on one max character and over 800g to another max character?

Mainly asking because I was wondering if I make sure they all have X amount of resonance crystals if they would all then get the gold reward.
