Why are meme specs meme specs

:frowning: Idk about any of you, but the most fun I have playing wow is with a “meme spec”. Classic and retail. They just have the playstyle that’s very enjoyable imo those mainstream classes like mages, warriors, rogues just aren’t fun . But Enhance/ret

ele is pretty good to chain lightning+nature swiftness+chain lighting pawns.

Yeah I enjoyed ele a little too.

Yeah auto attacking is really fun… cough

Seeing the enemy get one shot by windfury is

Because “meme specs” are only a thing because people say it is.

Maximizing for damage per second or heals per second is not always the best way to judge usefulness in a group or raid. Some people SAY it is, but that’d nothing more than a subjective value judgement.

It seems like the classic community are min maxers though, or most of them are

Honestly I’ve thought about rolling a hunter or mage just to be as much of a tard as possible in all of my groups. I wanna be the mage who casts blizzard on 1 mob. I wanna be the hunter who multishots no matter what and lets his pet spaz out

A meme is a cultural item in the form of an image, video, phrase, etc, that is spread through the internet and often altered in a creative or humorous way.

They’re referred to as meme specs because they are often the punchline of various jokes and statements, the implications of which reference those specs’ inferiority compared to other specs.

Put simply, “lolret” is a meme, and Ret is the “meme spec.” Other examples include “OOMkin” and “lelemental.”

OP they’re meme specs for raiding because they can’t maintain good DPS over a boss fight. still great in dungeons and in PvP. their utility can mostly be covered by the healing specs of the class, so some groups will outright refuse to bring the DPS specs. you don’t need every dps to be a pure dps, but people get antsy about it.

They are “meme specs” only to the elitist @&%holes that think they’re some sort of electronic god in a game. Play what you enjoy. Some specs will cause you to suffer because of legitimate issues (Boomkin being one of them, mana issues) but others are perfectly fine to play (Cat Druid) and are only “meme” because they don’t top raid meters.

Many people forget about things like support ability, flexibility, etc. If you like a thing, play that thing, you pay the sub fee.

Any spec can literally do any raid boss lol. Instead of clearing MC in 1h 40m you’ll clear it in 2h and people will be happier playing what they want.

Feral Cat is a meme because it relies on excessive amounts of min/maxing and raid preparation with MCPs, Wolfshead Helm + power shifting, consumables, world buffs, and very short fights just to do slightly less damage than other specs can do without any of those things.

No one forgets about those things; they’re just being overvalued by people like yourself.

Rebirth, for example, might sound like a reason to bring a Feral Druid, but it isn’t. That is already covered by Druids of any spec, and Restoration Druids can put out competitive healing to that of Paladins and Priests. Innervate is also brought by a Restoration Druid, and isn’t even needed since most fights are ending so quickly that mana isn’t an issue.

Other specs, such as Retribution, bring utility that is only useful to themselves or CC that is never used in raids.

Yes, any spec can do any boss, because there’s 39 other people in the raid and the personal responsibility is quite low.

They’re not memes because they can’t do the content; they’re memes because they’re relatively bad at their role.

It’s
Okay
To Be
Ret

But yeah I agree with you. I enjoy Retadin a lot and have been viable even in dungeon groups. I’ve had players complement me because my job isn’t to top DPS meters, but offheal/offtank/protect the Rdps/cleanse, and overall just help the dungeon go smoother.

Now I know Raiding is a completely different thing, and since I don’t raid I do not speak for that. But the problem is people look at the DPS numbers in raids and think that translates directly to the viability of a build/class everywhere else, when that’s just not true.

Raiding is a part of wow.
Raiding is not all of wow.

Im curious, what will you do instead of raid? I like raiding but youre right its not all of wow, but what would you do in turn of that to get the bis gear etc?

Dungeons to gear up for PVP

I ain’t got time for raidin’

There is plenty of experience and content in the 5 man dungeons and PVP battlegrounds.

EDIT: to expland on things, I really enjoy tanking dungeons as well. So I spec as prot to get into more groups. I can get in as Ret, but it just happens at a much faster rate as prot. And as Prot I do dungeons to get gear for PVP and pick up any tanking gear along the way.
