Why are m+ keys griefable?

Every day it’s the same story: I form a group, we go in, we wipe because someone did something wrong, the tank blames the healer, the healer blames the tank, the dps sit there silently cringing, the group falls apart my key is degraded and im stuck having this happen to me again and again. Why is this a thing? Why am I completely and utterly dependent on if I’ll luck out and get a party capable of working together? It’s such an unfun experience. I’ve had entire days wasted with this happening ad nauseam.

Screen your keys better.

Stop trying to do keys higher than your experience.

The only constant in your groups is you. People don’t leave good key groups.

Because there isn’t a lockout, and while you might experience a day of failures, you could also run keys for 20h straight and get crests, rating, and possibly loot each and every run.

That’s the nature of M+ pugging right there. One group of just adequately geared and rated players may have a perfectly smooth run. Then the group of apparent ringers you put together afterwards can go sideways on the first pull. It’s really impossible to tell how things are going to go until they are going.

If you are pugging, subtract 200 io from the tank and healer before you invite them

M+ pugging is pretty much summed up in this gif. You either keep going at it like this character from GTA3 or you stop doing it altogether (which many of us have chosen to do instead):

actually… this might be solid advice lmao

I’m unfortunately talking about 2200+ people. Just had it happen with a 2700 priest. Even if I’d subtracted 200 from them that still puts them at like 2500. It’s not like I’m pushing 13s, these things keep happening in 9s and 10s.

The hard truth is that you’re the common denominator of all of these groups.

Form better groups. Use tools such as RIO, WOWOP or WCL to vet your applicants. While you can’t get a 100% accurate prediction of how someone will play in your specific run, these tools exist to give you a history of how players have performed in previous groups and increases your chances of having a good group by inviting players with better histories and/or more experience.

You can also join a M+ focused guild and/or community instead of relying on pugs. And if you have a good group, offer to continue running with that group and/or add them to friends list for the future.

This late in the season, people are able to brute force higher than their skill ceiling because of gear acquisition.

My bad, I thought you were talking about 15s, in a 10 you’re gonna want to subtract 500 io from the tank and healer before you invite them

It’s what happens when people are bored.

People not on the same page. Tank might make a baby pull that most people pull big on and everyone pops CDs to nuke down a totally non-threatening pull. Then, they wipe to a regular pull after that, get mad, and quit.

The opposite also happens. Someone makes a huge pull and no one responds appropriately thinking, “It’s someone else’s job” and it’s a wipe.

Communication can solve most problems, but people seem to have an aversion to that.

ive had lust-capable people asking when to lust and tanks refusing to respond to them at all, kind of a constant thing actually. its really quite strange

If this is happening every day, or nearly every group…

Well

Yeah…

Have I ever told you the definition… of insanity?

I don’t want to be accused of being a xenophobe, but make sure everyone understands basic english. There are a lot of players that barely understand english. And if you’re just assuming people know what you’re saying, then well,… you know what they say about assume.

No. But you are confidently asserting I do

I’ll never understand how people claim racism or xenophobia when people say they don’t want to group with non-english speakers if they themselves are an English only speaker. In an MMO. In a game mode that requires communication. It’s absolutely insane that anyone would respond in this way. But unfortunately there are some people that do. I’ve seen it in-game. It’s bonkers.
