well from the sounds of it your trying to join a mythic guild. So they are going to try verify that your not literal dookie before they bring you in. if this isn’t a mythic guild then run and don’t look back you don’t want to group with these people.
to make sure you have things like key bindings and weak auras
I remember once this dude asked me to sign his guild charter and when I agreed he sent me a 30+ question guild application which included sexual orientation. Buddy don’t even.
Guilds still make you fill out apps etc? I mean, I get the guilds who are pushing world firsts and usually sponsored, but other than those, that is funny to hear guilds still make you fill out apps.
I remember Vanilla-MoP (especially vanilla and BC) we had to fill out apps and then set up an interview etc. It literally was like applying for a job.
After MoP I had no issues finding great guilds that I didn’t need to fill out any apps as I didn’t see any guilds ever asking for them any more let alone having their own websites like they did back then too.
Have you applied to any Mythic guilds? That’s where most of this takes place. They only have 20 slots so if they take somebody, they have to know what they are doing or they could delay progression.
I guess progression heroic guilds might care early in the season, but its less important.
As a former recruiter i would like to chime in
If your join a mythic prog group and depending on what level they need that information to make sure you are a semi decent player.
The UI is to make sure you actually have a UI set up (you wont believe how many people have not even a quarter of their utility on their bars)
As well has have a understanding of addons
As for logs it to make sure you line up with the guilds goals.
At the start of every patch there is always a influx of players who have never raided before who demand to join a mythic CE guild or prog guild and its like bro you need to prove yourself first before you do the big stuff.
The links are probably just so they don’t manually have to look up each person, especially if you have special characters. It’s more than likely a link to WoWlogs or something to see parses.
The UI thing is it see if you live in a chaotic wasteland or not and the general way you view information. My UI for example is a hot mess and I would probably be declined to a new guild if they saw what I do xD. Tons of people (that I know at least) use things like Elvui these days, mine is mostly just Blizzard UI since the UI updates.
Otherwise the questions don’t seem outlandish, at least most of the time
People also rename, swap characters, and honestly people lie. A lot. And making people answer questions about their history often leads to them saying things that contradict the logs / reports / otherwise they’re a good thing to bring up / clarify.
I understand asking questions, however, for my guild, it’s either you’re a friend of a guildie, we met you doing content and liked you so we invited you, or you actually wrote something in your application in the guild finder.
We don’t accept people via guild finder that leave it blank. Tell me anything about you and you’re likely getting in. Can’t even put in that effort then I don’t want you in my guild.
I’m not sure what kinds of guilds you’re currently looking for, but I can provide some perspective from the recruiter side.
First, I need to clarify that I think applying to any guild whose goal is anything other than Cutting Edge is weird.
As for guilds that do have apps they serve a few purposes.
They weed out a lot of people. If someone isn’t willing to fill out an app for your Cutting Edge guild, odds are pretty good that you don’t really want to be raiding with that person anyway. They aren’t that hard to do 99% of the time, so if someone isn’t willing to put in the smallest amount of effort to apply to your guild, that is likely indicative of their attitude toward raid prep as well.
Honestly I don’t know why they want a raider io link. It’s not something most guilds really care about, and to me this reads more as a "we think this is something good guilds would ask for so we’re asking for it too.
A few reasons.
I want to see what you’re seeing during combat. If someone’s UI is a cluttered mess of info, it’s pretty likely they are not actually processing critical information compared to someone who has a clean interface.
I’m looking for keybinds. I want to see that you aren’t clicking your skills. 9.9/10 times players who are clicking their skills are worse than those who aren’t. This obviously doesn’t guarantee that you’re not clicking, or that you don’t have you keybinds hidden, but it’s something I’m checking for.
And most importantly can you follow instructions? If the application asks for a screenshot of your UI in raid combat, and you post some picture of your UI in the middle of town, or hitting a dummy, or in a 5-man, that is indicative that you are not able to follow basic instructions, which is a critical skill for good raiders.
