Why are Garrison followers (apparently) NOT receiving mission XP?

We need more data.

I sent a character to complete a mission and then ran another. The ones I ran were credited correction. More data needed.

Okay, I was looking for confirmation and thought this overly entertaining thread was as good as place as any to toss this out there.

So I have noticed that when I send out followers on missions (Warlords of Draenor Garrison missions, so quite old content) for Bonus XP if all three are below level 40 they get the bonus XP. If they are at level 40, regardless of quality (green, blue, or purple) they do not seem to add the bonus XP from that (graphically anyways.) I did not check before and after xp on the level 40s so maybe they still get it but not on the Mission Success screen.

I will try to remember to check that on the next set of missions I run, but maybe someone could confirm that? Did the OP ever find an answer via the support forums?

** For my tracking purposes - I am currently running the following missions **
** Editing as missions complete **

Level 35 Mission “A Call to Action” XP Base 600 Bonus 600
Green 36 Magister Krelas 1300 XP to next level

  • *Results Mission Successful Krelas was rewarded both as expected being below level 40.
Green 36 Magister Krelas 100 XP to next level

Level 35 Mission “Hapless Heroes” XP Base 600 or 900? Bonus 900
Blue 40 Tama Skyhoof 49150 XP to next level
Green 40 Lokra 17417 XP to next level

  • *Results Mission FAILED This next one I forgot to record the Base XP… :frowning:
Blue 40 Tama Skyhoof 48550 XP to next level (base may have been 600?)
Green 40 Lokra 16817 XP to next level (base may have been 600?)

Level 36 Mission “Murkbog Terror” XP Base 1400 Bonus 1400
Green 40 Fen Tao 21234 XP to next level
Blue 36 Pleasure Bot 8000 1700 XP to next level
Green 35 Heallix Skatterstorm new and has no XP, 3000 to next level (exclamation point due to being one level too low.)

  • *Results Mission SUCESSFUL Graphically showed all getting bonus XP
Green 40 Fen Tao 18434 XP to next level
Blue 37 Pleasure Bot 8000 2900 XP to next level (note: It may look like he lost XP but he didn’t because he gained a level.)
Green 35 Heallix Skatterstorm new and has no XP, 1134 to next level but where does the 34 come in? That is odd, and I see two digit numbers that vary at the end on most characters.

Level 36 Mission “Hurts So Good” XP Base 700 Bonus 700
Blue 40 Faala 83913 XP to next level

  • *Results Mission Successful Faala was rewarded both as expected and I saw it graphically too.
Blue 40 Faala 82513 XP to next level

Level 36 Mission “Bug Squashing” XP Base 700 Bonus 700
Blue 40 Dagg 114650 XP to next level

  • *Results Mission Successful Dagg was rewarded both as expected, though I did not see it rewarded graphically. Perhaps because it was just a tiny amount. This is what I think was possibly happening to me when I first went looking for info and found this thread. This mission and results while omitting the graphically award make me feel its working as expected.
Blue 40 Dagg 113250 XP to next level

Level 39 Mission “Lug’Dol’s Thugs” XP Base 1000 Bonus 1500
Purple 40 Ariok
Green 40 Mulverick 11501 to next level

  • *Results Mission Successful All XP was awarded to Mulverick and it showed graphically.
    Purple 40 Ariok
Green 40 Mulverick 9001 to next level

Level 39 Mission “Raider Danger” XP Base 1000 Bonus 1000
Blue 40 Arienne Black 91251 to next level

  • *Results Mission Successful All XP was awarded to Mulverick, this one also didn’t show the bonus XP graphically but it was rewarded. Again, it was probably due to it being such a small amount overall.
Blue 40 Arienne Black 89251 to next level

Level 40 Mission “Clefthoof Rustling” XP Base 1500 Bonus 8000
Purple 40 Millhouse
Blue 40 Kal’gor the Honorable 111134 to next level
Blue 40 Great Mother Geyah 72034 to next level

  • *Results Mission Successful Bonus XP was graphically shown
    Purple 40 Millhouse
Blue 40 Kal’gor the Honorable 101634 to next level
Blue 40 Great Mother Geyah 62534 to next level

I still do the Garrison of all of my guys, and I’ve not seen the exact problem you’re describing.

Probably THIS is what happened → I do know that if a follower is too low of a level for a mission, then it will not award any experience. If you send out a level 30 follower on a level 40 mission, for example. (I want to say it also does mark them as “red” in the UI, which is slightly different than what you are describing)

go get Master Plan from Curse Forge ASAP → *** Master Plan is a great add-on for the Garrison mission table, and will simplify it, and auto-select the correct followers when you click a mission, and you won’t lose out on any more experience.

I just read your 5th or 6th post, and I’ve never heard of any Garrison mission REMOVING exp, you may need the bug forums or a GM for that.

I’m assuming you know the correct buildings, etc. to get to “max out” your Garrison. If not, holler, and I can tell you exactly what to get.

Thanks for the post, I had Master Plan at one time but it threw errors so I removed it before really using it. I can try again. But my silly experiment is complete and I think I know what was going on.

I think on the ones that I ran where it was not showing XP bonuses graphically was simply because those missions awarded such a small amount compared to what the XP bar was made up of for the next level or quality to be reached. It seemed that a few times it didn’t register graphically, but all characters did match up on rewarded base and bonus XP when I reviewed them before and after the mission on the followers tab.

It was kind of a fun, though tedious experiment. It also left me with one question seeing how I had a fresh follower in Heallix Skatterstorm who ended up with 1134 XP to level 36 when it should have been a round number. That lead to me noticing almost all my followers have non-rounded numbers. Maybe that happens with all initially?? Not sure why though, but still the awards for the missions were all added.

As far as the OP he mentions that he had all characters at minimum level requirement so sadly I do not think I got anything in my experiment to explain it, and at 8,000 that is big enough I think it would register graphically no matter which level or quality the follower was about to reach next. Maybe a bad mission?? Also as far as removing XP, I mention in my notes that it took me a minute to catch it, but it looked like one character did lose XP but then I realized that they gained a level. lol I felt rather silly about that. LOL

If you’d be willing to send me the info on correct building via PM to “Max out” my garrison I would appreciate it. If the offer was only open the the OP thats cool. I may actually go A-Googling for it now that I see this mention of a max.

Updated: (All bonus XP is listing as red for all missions all follower combos. Something happened that is odd. Still trying to figure it out…)

HAHHAAHAHA! No sooner do I post that reply and mention not seeing what the OP saw I ran into something similar. I have not started this mission yet but it is a level 35 mission called Steeltusk Lives. Steeltusk is the only enemy and is a Deadly Minion and I countered him with blue level 40 Dagg (111500 to next) who has sap. That set the mission success at 88% chance with two more followers to add.

Then I added followers green 35 Heallix Skatterstorm (1134 to next) which bumped the chance to 96% but still bonus XP was red. Followed by blue 35 Aeda Brightdawn (600 to next) which brought the chance to 100% but the bonus xp was still listed as red. Bonus XP is listed as being 1200 if I qualified for it and I do not see why I do not. Base is 1200 also, so 2400 total could be awarded.

Then I tried just about every combo of follower I have (including three level 40 blue, but also then three purple 40’s just to see if it would change) and never got the red on the bonus XP to go away. So I am going to run it with these initial three, but I bet they do not get that bonus since it is red, which makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is why I cannot even get it to not be red.

I have a screen shot of it, but I do not post enough to share links. :frowning:

Just found this on Reddit and it makes sense. https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/c027ke/garrison_follower_exp_in_red/

As I mentioned to someone in another comment, the text is red even if I have nobody in the mission slots.

I’ve looked into it, and it seems to be a visual glitch that occurs when you click on a mission that rewards garrison resources when you are maxed out. It just makes all text-based rewards red (Oil, resources, experience).

P.S. Yay I can post links now, after all these years. LOL

OK here you go, I think this is just about the ideal setup for the Garrison.

Trading Post, level 1. This way you can exchange Garrison Resources for items, like Sumptuous Fur. (bags will always sell, and so does the Sumptuous Fur, for that matter)

Barracks, Level 3. This way you get 25 followers, rather than the default 20.

Frostwall Tavern (Lunarfall Inn), level 2. So you can grab a new follower each week, with either Extreme Scavenger or Greasemonkey. Extreme Scavenger and Greasemonkey make the follower give you more of the free resources when you complete a Garrison mission or Shipyard mission. When you select a follower each week, make sure to grab the one that ONLY has ether Extreme Scavenger OR Greasemonkey (depending on which you selected). Sometimes the Frostwall Tavern will give you a “blue” guy, with another trait, but unless the bonus blue trait is either Extreme Scavenger, Scavenger, or Greasemonkey, you don’t want it)

You want about 15+ followers with Extreme Scavenger, and 7+ with Greasemonkey. (assuming you do Shipyard too) Ideally, you get some followers who you select with Extreme Scavenger, and as they level up, they get Greasemonkey and/or Scavenger. The perfect follower would have Extreme Scavenger PLUS Greasemonkey PLUS Scavenger. I only have ONE follower like this, across 40+ Garrisons.

The Garrison was the first thing within WoW that gave you “something for nothing”, as it threw resources at you, without you needing to do anything, other than login. Some people felt it broke the game. Maybe it did. It doesn’t give you tons of gold anymore, but it still gives you some.

Salvage Yard, level 3. This gets you follower equipment to get everyone to 675/675, plus other stuff, from running Missions. The bag ALSO gives you extra Garrison Resources as well.

Storehouse, Level 1. So you have a bank right in your Garrison. If you are in a Guild, perhaps you want level 2. If you DO NOT have the Yak mount, perhaps you want level 3.

War Mill, level 2. So you can get follower equipment.

Fishing Shack, level 1. So you can get the daily fishing quest, and you just turn in the fish you are getting from your Shipyard Missions.

Shipyard, one of your guys per server should have Tuskaar Fishing Net, so you get fish from completed Shipyard missions, which you use at the Fishing Shack each day, as this bumps up your Draenor fishing, and also gives out decent EXP while levelling. You can level up a guy just by parking him in your Garrison, basically. You can also sell the fish you get, if not needed for the daily fishing quest anymore. People still do buy the fish on the AH.

The Shipyard will also throw you out missions with rewards like “Baleful Cloth Spaulders” (they vary by armor type) which you should send to your Enchanter (on any server) which matches that armor type. Use the item, and disenchant it, and sell the reagents.

Pet Menagerie, level 1. Level 3 if you want the daily pet quests. Pet quests are very good sources of EXP as well, if needed. In my opinion, The overall BEST pet battle, is NOT Squirt in the Garrison Pet Menagerie, but Sir Galveston in Dalaran.

(IF a Tailor) Tailoring Emporium, level 1. (or up to level 3 if you want). Bags still sell, and they will always sell. The Garrison will give you the materials to make 30-slot bags. (Hexweave Bags)

(IF an Alchemist) Alchemy Lab, level 1. (or up to level 3 if you want). This is so you generate the Alchemical Catalyst, used to transmute Sorcerous Water/Air/Fire to Earth, which is the most valuable, and used in making Hexweave Bags. Sorcerous stuff also drops from Shipyard missions.

Wowhead also has a “17 followers in Draenor” link/list, where you can hop around and grab 17+ free followers in Draenor, and then you just replace them over time (if bad traits) with guys you get from the Frostwall Tavern each week.

I think that’s everything, hopefully I’m not forgetting too much.

EDIT… Forgot one thing… keep doing Shipyard treasure/item missions, at least until you get the quest to get Zhang Yeoh (the BMAH lady) back at your Garrison, so you can monitor the BMAH from your Garrison.

sounds like a bug, try to check more properly and if it really doesn’t add up?

report the bug and if you must open a ticket.

the Garrison is currently having some issues and i know because i tried to access my Ship Yard table and the game wouldn’t let me.

the only way for me to do it was to download a Add-on that let me see the menus of Garrisons, Class halls, Mission tables from BfA and even the tables from Shadow Lands.

my point is a lot of things from past expansions are bugging out in this game currently.

:dracthyr_cry:

It is all working for me at two different garrisons. All my tests verify all xp is being awarded so far, and I logged out and logged back in and the new missions show white bonus XP again. As the Reddit poster stated, it was that I had selected a supply mission initially but had maxed out resources and that bugged it. I guess I could open a ticket for that, but it is a minor cosmetic one, so I am unwilling to submit it as they have better things to look into.

If things are not working for you, I would say try running without any addons as one or some of them may be the cause of your issue. If that does not fix the table issue, then you may need to repair files or do an uninstall/reinstall to clean things up more properly. One of those will surely fix it, as I run pretty vanilla and have not encountered the issue you mention.
