What many gamers fail to comprehend is the developers are happy with the game, they are happy where the story is going. They might not be pleased with the rate of development, but they are pleased with the work completed and are already preparing future plans. Any criticisms are an attack on their identity.
An analogy: The developers paint the house purple. The community complain and say red would have been a better color, they go into great detail why purple wasn’t the right color (for them), in turn these people have instantaneously disconnected themselves from the cause and effect. The developer motivation to update this game stems from their own desires, and their own desire is to make what you see today. They don’t want to make the game you think is the best, they don’t want to color their house the color you think is best.
Something to think about…

Hello, it’s not just the developers that are happy with the game. I too am happy with the state of the current game - there’s so much content to do and the content itself is beyond stellar as well. Ion and the devs hit this patch out of the park and it’s probably the best World of Warcraft patch to date

We have no idea if they are happy or not. None of them post anymore.

Heres the catch. A business exists to make money. If enough customers dislike the product enough to not buy it then the devs don’t have anything. So they can be happy but that doesn’t matter.
What does matter is making x customers happy and x profits rolling.

Maybe you are right. I’ve noticed a number of worlds colliding here on the forums. Hard to say what the actual truth Is and the waters aren’t getting any less muddy. For a second I’m thinking. What If they really don’t care. And they will never listen to people. Now that, Is a scary thought. And many seem to believe this to be true.
Im happy with the game.
I could care less what the devs or others think.
So long as im happy and they keep making me happy, theyre doing a good job.

And that is why you will never see changes or updates to the game that are contrary to the wishes of the devs. Because, with a player base this size, there will always be people who like the state of the game and the direction in which it is heading. The Devs will take this as a sign they are on the right track.

When you have mmos getting expacs and updates you won’t please everyone. The goal is to just please as many customers as possible by having options.
Their motivation is their paycheck and making it bigger by any means necessary the gaming decisions are soulless and indifferent basically. Publicly traded companies usually end up like this.

Or to stay true to your own artistic integrity. I made this argument back during TBC in response to player complaints. Not sure if it holds true now
The existence of tmog means we can all win and roll with whatever appearence we can create. So long as blizz makes a large variety of models the greater our choices.
A budiness still needs to keep x players hooked to stay alive. So the devs individusl artistic tastes are secondary.
Apparently nobody told you, but this game is a product for sale. Your argument is like this:
People go to a restaurant and order a steak. The server brings them salmon. When the customer complains, some dummy comes along and says “The cook likes salmon. They are pleased with the way the salmon turned out. Any criticisms are an attack on their identity.”

That restaurant shuts down a few weeks later.

Well, I mean, Taco Bell is still in business so…

No matter what you order at Taco Bell you get the same 5 ingredients just combined in different ways. Beans, cheese, some sort of meat like substance, sour cream and something to wrap it in.

There are patterns in all things, including WoW.
Fast food is for convenience not quality. They will always exist to some extent.
Feedback is important. They don’t have to agree with the feedback, but some of it will help shape the game.
That being said, most of the stuff put on these forums really isn’t feedback. It’s more a few arrogant players throwing tantrums because they aren’t getting their way or Blizzard told them no.
That’s kind of the point of the correlation.
