Well, I’m in favor of increasing immersion /impact of the in game world. I just didn’t find that they were part of it. Training skills was a chore, and a big one at that. Plenty of times id go there to train only to realize I didn’t have enough gold, or you forget one and be a detriment to your group, or you’d flat out have people avoid buying items for their toolkits, hindering others ect.
Now if you had asked why aren’t they more integral, or reworked into another fashion then we can talk. I’d be all for more class quests or something from the trainers. But adding annoying inconvenience? We have enough of that as it is (ever get to start a m+ and realize that you left that one raid conduit on? Better stop and travel to talk to this box… Oh too late timers ticking, hope you don’t miss that 60% increased healing on your main group heal)
I don’t really miss paying for every spell, but I think it would be a nice middle ground if, at least for certain abilities, you would go to your trainer to “learn” them through a small quest, at least.
keep a little of the world flavour… not everything needs to be functionally super efficient. Why do some mobs not have a quest associated with them, why do some NPCs in cities not sell anything or start a quest? its world building.
was going through all my toons to get a /playtime for another thread found some great stuff, i think the most untouched i had was a a rogue with a bag full now empty poison vials.
They are still training young adventuring NPC’s just not us space fairing, commanders of the army who stand alive and welcome among the dead. Common man just like use your imagination.
I disagree. Most levelers in classic ended up going without spells or delaying them because they had to pay a lot of their gold for them. Spells should be free.
You could tie unlocking some advanced stuff from the trainers to unlocking class halls or something but I don’t think they’re going to revisit them any time soon since they’re old expansion content.
Some class halls did unlock a few skills already, though.
Same. It gave leveling a nice flow where every 2-4 levels you’d return to civilization for a bit to prepare for the next round of leveling - training new spells, grabbing stashed gear out of the bank, selling vendor trash, etc.
Lacking natural breakpoints like that now which doesn’t feel great.
I never forgot to go train new abilities but with the new system I’m constantly dinging mid-combat and missing that I got anything new for multiple levels. Doesn’t matter I guess though, since most classes only need a fifth of their total toolkit to make it to 60 now.
So Blizzard can still claim it is an RPG.
Despite their uselessness they still fill space and are resources that have already been expended. There is no reason for them to be there, but even more so there is no reason for them not to be there.
Rip the past 8 years of WoW.
Ironically it makes it feel more like a grind, especially alongside scaling mobs making everything feel the same.
The actual harm accessibility has brought over the benefits is actually much greater.
