They’re not. They’re actually incredibly rude and mean. Unfortunately, they have the exact opposite problem of Australians.
Whereas an average Australian is very friendly, but their vocabulary is considered a deathly insult to the rest of the world, a Canadian is extremely mean, but their vocabulary for expressing it is considered extremely polite to the rest of the world.
Truth? They aren’t all nice. Not at all. I grew up all my life near British Columbia and Canadians would come down South and trash our parks. It was weird. It was like “We are not in our own country so SCREW YOU GUYS!”
Not nice.
But when I was in Canada? Canadians were nice at home. Go figure.
The whole “people in this place are nice and people there are not” thing has proven to be bogus in my experience. There are great people and lousy people everywhere.
I was stationed with my bud in the middle of nowhere, all we had were nasty rations. About a week in Canadian MP’s dropped by to say hey, after hellos and such the Canadians noticed our boxed rations and sent 2 fellows off to the vehicles outside, they returned with all kinds of cool food and chocolate bars. I was overjoyed to say the least.
They also invited us to visit their office a little further north. Whenever we did drop in they would make us a fresh pot of coffee, as they knew we just had instant garbage and I loved my coffee.
It was a pure act of kindness, the fact I was a Corporal and the dude making the coffee was a Major was not lost on me and left a lasting impression , I literally love Canadians by default now, very ‘decent’ (nod to Bubbles) folks indeed.
