Sorry if I hit a soft spot. I’m glad the hunters on the discord are in agreement that MM don’t need pets. Keep doing your LFR.
Says the dude who went to cry in another thread
They arent, the echo chamber tried to shut then up, but they aren’t
And you should level your character, at lv 70 you ain’t doing crap, not even LFR.
the bottom line in all the pet threads is about MM needing a pet out in the field, especially when they’re solo; very few MM go into dungeons with a pet out.
Also, there are a lot of players with pets they’ve played with for 20 years. they don’t want to lose them or be forced to switch the BM. these are valid claims and players deserve a voice in this change.
Also this can be provided without ANY impact on the planned changes, future changes or any dungeon/raid content.
There is truly no reason to get rid of them.
My thought is that the hunter is som kind of ranger class since hunting is an activity that any class can do. What I want to see alternative ranged weapon classes. Yes, this will create competition for ranged weapons, but I am all for that.
So, hypothetically we could have:
Rogue based snipers. Hiding in stealth to launch a devastating opening shot. This shot is also poisoned with a slowing effect to help this rogue get a few more but less lethal shots in before an advancing enemy reach melee range.
Warrior based Archers: These pound the enemy from afar. they lack most of the tricks the hunters have but make up for it by carrying heavier more devastating weapons. Basically, strength will allow them to draw bows further, wind up heavier crossbows and carry heavier guns/hand cannons.
Some druids could take up a bow as an option turning them to a pseudo variant of the hunter class.
And why not paladins with ranged weapons? Sure, there would be many paladin abilities that wouldn’t work for this, but some should and those should be enough to make such a paladin viable.
The monks are based on Asian monks and those sometimes, at least i Japan, use archery even if it is probably mostly for some mediative purpose.
I appreciate the imagination you’re using but I just don’t think that’s in the cards for WoW. The different classes in WoW fall into specific archetypes and any variation outside of that has just been done with hero talents. What you describe is available in other games like Diablo 4 having a ranged rogue. The other classes you have mentioned have a ranged attack here and there, but outside of couple of examples, are what they are designed to be. There are hybrids like Survival Hunter and Enhance Shaman having a mixture or ranged and melee. I mean, Survival literally has a talent called ‘Ranger’. that buffs many ranged abilities they use on the regular.
That is exactly what was said about melee hunter…until it happened. They took a great ranged spec from a ranged with pet class and changed it to something that did not fit the archetype. So no reason Warrior and Rogue can’t go ranged (they used and could train ranged in classic…)
Survival sure had it’s low points in recent years, but the current iteration that was brought through in this expansion has been fantastic. Yes, I’m familiar with warriors and rogues using ranged weapons in Vanilla. Warriors mostly used a ranged weapon to pull and both rogues and warriors largely used them for stat sticks. Also, some niche cases like Onyxia, where you had to slow DPS to a crawl but still wanted to poke at her.
And look, if rogues and/or warriors get a ranged spec that would be pretty cool. But the reality of that happening is slim to none.
Agree completley… Current iteration of sv feels smooth and fun to play. Previous iterations felt clunky, to me at least.
That’s why I have high hopes for their changes to MM. They are continuing to sand a lot of rough edges.
Yes MM is going to lose some abilities.
In BGs they won’t be great flag sitters anymore. Which is probably a good thing, no spec needs to have the most range, arguably the most burst, stealth, and also a flag sitting pet it’s just too much. They need to bring MM down a notch in bgs or else every blitz will be 6 MMs and healers.
We’re going to lose a personal tank. But content in recent years doesn’t really require one. It puts us on an even footing with something like a Boomkin. We can solo most everything, but just like the Boomkin, there will be elite mobs that we may have to switch specs or find a group to take down. Even delves aren’t a problem without a pet, I say that because I run them as MM without a pet and it’s really not an issue.
But we’re going to gain an identity that the game has lacked for some time. An actual marksman, dedicated to being an expert damage dealer using their ranged weapon of choice. And one that is a little more balanced with other ranged specs.
I’ll telephone the tribes around the world that hunt with a spear that they’re not allowed to do melee damage because it doesn’t make sense to you. A hunter hunts things, most likely to provide itself and it’s tribe with food or to protect territory. A hunter is not limited to only doing range damage nor only doing melee.
How a video game developer chooses to implement their own interpretation of what a hunter is can vary very wildly from reality, and that’s okay. But it also can be influenced by reality.
Over 20 years the MM hunter way to play was to attack from range, with a hunter pet to keep enemies at a distance.
At least in vanilla MM hunters had a melee attack tool kit to continuously slow down mobs to keep the distance (which they also utilized in the challenge to obtain Rhok’delar).
After Blizzard already removed the melee toolkit from MM hunters over time, they now also remove the pets, which will fundamentally change the solo gameplay of MM hunters.
It feels to me that the devs don’t really understand the MM hunter class. I would like to see a dev who can show off Rhok’delar on his character and explain the MM hunter changes, because otherwise I will have massive doubts that the devs even know what they are doing here (and btw my hunter still has this bow from vanilla).
tanks used to carry bows for ranged pulls; the game had some really nice skill sets way-back-when.
My theory is that it’s just people on the spectrum who have a hard time processing change.
The same argument and outcry happened when they made survival a melee spec.
Survival never survived the transition to melee spec. It is one of the least played specs in the game along with Outlaw.
Before dismissing people for not being able to process change consider that not all change is good cough Systemlands cough
And Survival is a dead spec to me ever since.
That’s fine. I felt the same way when they forced frost dks to go dw in legion. I played a different class and eventually a different game.
I’m willing to try out the new MM on the ptr and see where the new weakpoints are for MM. We will likely need some extra health regen or procs to compensate for losing the pet.
Survival. RIP
Outlaw. RIP
MM? Will soon be RIP.
Sure, let’s give the ranged class an extra 4 million HP
Could be something as easy as adding dark succor to aimed shot.
