On my hunter, I am in full unranked honor gear.
7/7 on each piece of gear. It’s all ilvl 216 which is 233 in pvp.
The first unranked piece of conquest gear is ilvl 220 which is also 233 in pvp
So I need a crap load of conquest to buy a set that has the same ilvl as the set I already have ?
Can someone please explain this to me. It seems very very sloppy.

Conquest gear can be upgraded further with rating.

Also, honor gear used to cap out below the first rank of conquest, at 229. They buffed it in 9.1.5 when they added the additional ranks to conquest gear.
The stat weights are also different, conquest gear is more vers heavy I think. And of course the PvE item level is slightly higher.
It does still make honor gear look completely useless and a waste of time to get. Conquest farming in low rated 2s is probably faster and youll likely get the first few ranks of upgrades doing that too. Really shows what a joke honor gear and its design is.

as someone who doesn’t do rated content, it seems fair to me. at least it isn’t lower like it used to be, so someone who does start late with rated won’t get wrecked as bad.
No, you still get trashed near instantly if you have honor gear. Honor is actually just a waste of time. Which is funny because they buffed honor gain by a lot. Sweet. If only there was any reason to farm up so much of it.

The point is so that you have the same gear as the first rank of conquest until you farm the conquest gear.
It is meant to remove the gap of starting rated content but still getting upgrades.
Before the patch one would need to raid or do high M+ keys to have a chance of closing the gap so they didn’t get stomped in seconds by conquest geared players.
This way you can survive longer while you are working toward the conquest set since conquest gear takes a bit to farm.
It was a good idea…problem is that the player base is leaving so any PvPers still around are most likely hardcore PvPers and they will be decked out so rated content will be full of high geared players. Not enough teams of low enough ranking and gear to make it evenly matched so they give you the lowest they got.

Thanks for all the replies. Since I don’t do rated , I’m going to stick with my 7/7 gear.
Yes I die in a global but I can’t complain about rate gated gear all year and then head over and join a rated bg group.
Mind you, if it was a solo Q…

maybe since i raid and use a combination of pve/pvp gear, i don’t find it that bad… unless it’s 5v1, but then again, gear won’t matter regardless.
I had a crazy idea the other day. What if there was no conquest gear at all? What if 7/7 honor gear was the max PvP gear across the board?
This would have multiple advantages:
- preserve gear progression for players who like gear
- reduce gear gap by lowering max gear to 7/7 honor level
- present fairer competition in rated, because active rated participants will quickly gear up to max level
- give casual players path to max PvP gear via honor so they’re not falling behind in random BGs
- honor gear doesn’t compete with conquest gear for honor for upgrades, you just play whatever mode and earn honor and work towards max PvP gear
- even more liberal than WoD, because you don’t need any rated at all if you don’t want to, and you earn honor even if you lose
They just need to add more stat combinations to honor gear, and substantially buff honor for arenas and whatnot. Potentially also buff honor gear PvP item level so it maxes out at mythic level so that PvE gear wouldn’t overtake.
Conquest gear can just be a cosmetic currency. Or it can be used to upgrade PvE item level of gear based on the rating. (I think it’s fair to reward higher base PvE item level for higher rating, as long as it doesn’t affect PvP).

See the problem with all that is…
NOBODY WOULD BUY TOKENS

Well the buff still benefits upgrading conquest gear too. So it wasn’t a complete waste.
