Every single chest I open after completing a research task from Eternus, or when I spend 10x Motes of Broken Time, I keep getting gear that has the same item level as the gear I’m wearing. I dont know why this is happening, but if it continues, there is no drive to play since I cant progress.
My item level is 655.
My artifact ilvl is 663. Yes, I do upgrade it whenever I get the sand
Gear upgrades from sources I specified above aren’t upgrading past 659.
Is this a bug? Is this supposed to be like this? I have people in my guild getting ilvl 670 and higher from motes from the same sources Im getting them from. Theyre getting upgrades from chests from tasks too.
So why am I being capped? How do I fix this? Why is this happening?
I have a ticket open with blizzard, but ETA response time is 5 days 16 hours. Thats just crazy.
Theres virtually zero incentive to play right now because I cannot upgrade any of my gear because every reward has an identical ilvl.

I am the poster of this thread. This is the character I play on remix. If you see anything, let me know.
You need to get pieces to upgrade that 646 gear first you have a lot of it. It sucks when it likes to throw out the same slots and no what you need.
This and needing specific jewellery/trinkets is harshing the gearup process SO MUCH…

Yup, nothing like having a piece of jewelry drop that is nearly 100 item levels greater than the piece you have equipped but due to it having a different effect than what is selected in your artifact weapon, it gets put in your bag.
I think the worst disparity between my overall item level and worn item level was 18 levels due to jewelry. The worst single slot difference in the 720’s and one trinket I had was 591.
My character has been stuck because I have 2 pieces that are 20+ Ilvls lowers and no other slot will give me an upgrade.

Be sure to clear out lower item level pieces from your bags before opening caches of infinite power or using motes. The gear scaling system works off the average of your equipped items and your bag items.
If possible keep a potential upgrade item in your bags to keep the motes/caches giving you higher item level pieces.

Yeah, it’s not about the source, it’s about your I-lvl.
I noticed the pattern that the caches & motes yield an I-lvl item based on what your weapon was at the time they were earned, not so much what your weapon is currently, prob to avert banking them.
It’s a treadmill for sure, your usage may vary.
I still need the right accessory or two and 740 pants. This is day 3 of seeing neither of those things across every epic cache and raid boss kill across all 3 difficulties. RNG can be a bit of a jerk sometimes.
This was my issue 2 of my jewelry pieces wouldent drop i kept getting just legs/boots
You can still use them. In fact a lot of build guides are recommending that you go down one track on your artifact and pick up jewellery/trinkets from others. MM hunter, for example, goes down the Fel track, but wants two slots to give the shark trait out of the Tempest track.
Me currently. I still have 640 stragglers but most of my gear somehow is 660+…
Could be in the 670s by now, but yesterday I got 6 repeats with no upgrades. They were 659 as well, OP. It’s very demoralizing when RNG isn’t in your favor. But I wonder now if there’s checkpoint ilvl gear that becomes stubborn…
MoP was definitely better in this case. It felt much better being able to always upgrade your gear in a very direct path, even if it requires bronze itself.

I hate the RNG gear system.
Not sharing currency between power and cosmetics was an improvement, but that could have been accomplished by adding a currency for gear instead of this RNG nonsense.

they changed the rng 10 motes in a row have been the same level
This has happened to me quite a few times…identical gear to what I’m wearing…same piece, same Ilvl…
Keep your highest ilvl pieces and don’t scrap them. Once your highest ilvl meets a certain threshold, it’ll drop 3-4 ilvl higher gear.
That’s not a thing. You can use any piece regardless of selected artifact path.

As others have mentioned, you can use any jewelry talents regardless of your artifact trait path.
Check out your spec guide from wowhead (icy has them also if you prefer). They will tell you what jewelry talents are best for your spec.
