My guess is that it’s not automated and requires someone to be out of bed. It’s not critical so I am guessing there are no volunteers to wake up at 2:30 or earlier to start at 3.

If they did it a 3 a.m. PST you would still have a ton of people complaining on the east coast that they cant check the AH before going to work.
No matter what they set it at, someone will be unhappy.

I never understand this… Yeah they do on their own servers that are on completely different maintenance schedules.
