Why all the hate for LFG/LFR, and where does it come from?

A stretch and a baseless one at that. I don’t care if some guy gets the equivalent of +0 gear from facerolling three raid bosses.

This is truly ridiculous: If you have standards, you’re elitist. If you dislike how bad players are never challenged or encouraged to improve, you’re jealous.

Give me a break.

I don’t enjoy LFR, I think other levels of raiding are more fun. I’d also have to confess that I think most LFR players would have more fun in more organised and social raiding contexts (purely talking about fun, this has nothing to do with anything else). Of course, that involves time commitment which won’t work for everyone.

But ultimately, LFR doesn’t affect me in any way. So put me down for one live and let live?

It was mostly that most people have done something like this, and know how that feels. I’m well aware of the differences, I was evoking the emotions and annoyance that creates.

Not actually trying to compare apples to apples here, just paint a picture.

From posts in the forums (since LFR was implemented)…

  1. LFR promotes “lazy” rading. It doesn’t require any skill, and the few times it actually does take a modicum of thought it is “nerf’d at first cry”.

  2. LFR negatively effects server identity and community. Having everything cross-realm and anonymous (applies to any auto-queue system and CRZ/sharding also) removes the need to be a part of your server’s community and allows for jerks to run wild.

  3. LFR rewards high level gear for no effort (WF/TF). While everyone should be able to obtain gear, the best gear should be for the highest difficulty content in the game. Gear levels/power should be commensurate with effort/skill involved in content.

There’s more. Reading through the threads about LFR will tell you what you want to know. We really didn’t need another one.

Oh… I don’t “hate” LFR as a game feature.

My problem isnt with LFR its with the people who do LFR.

It’s an analogy. Are you dense?

So to refute my claim that the community was negatively impacted by LFG, you tell me a story about how a mindset spawned by LFG inconvenienced you.

Okay.

Just because something is an analogy, doesn’t mean it’s correct. Especially one so absurd. The fact that the argument against LFR has to use such ridiculous analogies is not a good sign for your cause

I could point to many other ridiculous statements made by the ‘pro-lfr’ side in this very thread. The difference is I don’t base my stance on fallacies and misrepresentations, like some people.

Ahh, the good ol’ “Well my point might have been wrong, but other people have said things that were wrong too!”

I was responding to that line, but I think you know that.

Elitists gonna elitist… nothing more.
They dont want to share their shinies even if they are less powerful versions of them.

The hate comes from the fact that raiding used to be content exclusive to those who were willing to put in a lot of time and effort. The introduction of LFR killed that exclusivity and diminished the importance of raiding as a social aspect. You can no longer distinguish yourself by raiding. The automatic grouping aspect implies that mechanics need to be nerfed because the group will never be organized in the first place. In a way, they created an easy mode raiding setting which devalued real raiding.

Side note: I wasn’t arguing for or against, just trying to explain.

LFR doesn’t devalue real raiding. There is a very distinct difference between gear found in LFR and gear found in Heroic/Mythic. On top of that, there are achievements, mounts, and some cosmetics that are only obtainable in Heroic+.

This is just false. LFR devalues raiding as it removes the social importance granted to it. Players in Vanilla were regarded as elites when they showed up in major cities with their shiny raiding gear. This has been lost in part because anyone can enter the latest raid right now and it is nothing special.

I’m sorry you feel that way, but it’s not cost effective for Blizz to maintain your perceived social status.

Being able to distinguish yourself is one of the reasons why whales are willing to spend thousands of dollars in mobile games. People want to buy status, that is why brands are valuable in the first place.

Which doesn’t make sense for WoW because it’s not pay to win.

Give it 2 years. That is not the point thou.

People valued it and the game removed it. Might not be such a good decision. Who knows.
