Why all the faerin hate

You say the shield arm is cool I think the shield arm is stupid but other then the stupid shield arm and bad haircut Faerin is fine.

Her charecter and story is offensive for disabled people and vets.

I don’t dislike her. But, I don’t feel she is interesting currently. She feels to be written with zero faults and an overwhelmingly positive attitude into telling Anduin and us that we always must look on the bright side, even if things are looking absolutely grim.
She feels to be written as a sympathetic character, always seeking and saying there is a silver lining to all the trouble; i.e: these terrible life long trauma inducing things happened to you, but this bad thing happened to me so I got over it, so you should to cause I was able to, while trying to pose as an empathetic person, which to me feels in poor taste.

Though it is too early to really detail it, as the story could get a shift that has her in a situation where it feels hopeless, causing her to see past her own self and truly rely on external forces to truly show her the difference in how things can be at their absolute worst.

Time will tell if she has character growth or stuck on the one way trolly of obsessive positivity.

I haven’t liked a WoW character since illidian. They talk too much, and have rather shallow conflicts overplayed by the need to talk rather than show. They just win, win, win but the writer tries to trick me they actually had a sad past with a lot of words.

I preferred the spiders

I think it’s just the stuff that happened with Star Wars. Old school Star Wars fans are very anti female importance for characters. There’s a growing number of people in this game that are starting to do the same thing.

If that was the case, we’d have more threads targeting individual charecters for that. Faerin is in the special bad catagory.

I remember a lot of threads before this expac targeting female characters. Remember all the “We need more strong men!” threads?

People hate Faerin? She didn’t have enough impact on me to make any kind of impact, positive or negative. She was just kinda there. Not really a problem but nothing special either.

Because there are a lot of people in this community that do a very poor job hiding the fact that they’re insanely racist and/or sexist.

There are some valid criticisms of the character, but 99% of the time nobody can actually explain why and call her a DEI character. As it turns out, “DEI” used in this context is a substitute for a six-letter word that’ll leave you as a red stain on the pavement if you yell it out in some areas.

Those threads said female in general.

Not individuals like faerin.

There is less hate in female all leads then just for faerin.

I am honestly not bothered by female leads as long as they’re story is ok.

Ugly, inconsistent Mary Sue, that’s literally it. Also Mary Sue has nothing to do with DEI or progressive or sociopolitics, the term has been around for over 40 years.

For me it’s that she can do no wrong.
This character is constantly getting her boots licked by everyone around her and it feels forced.

Imagine living in a fantastical world where robots and magic exist and turning down a prosthetic.

That would be like a paraplegic turning down a wheelchair and insisting they crawl around everywhere on their hands.

And people are confused why she’s accused of being a DEI character?
It feels way too forced.

I don’t really agree. I think people are just a little extra sensitive to pandering. Especially since that one time that horrible “diversity calculator” got leaked, where token character traits were measured like currency. I can understand people’s danger senses flaring up when they see a character who’s dark-skinned and missing an arm. It can feel tacky, like they’re just piling up tokenized traits like Pokemon solely to pander.

BUT, with ALL THAT said, I don’t think it’s a huge deal in Faerin’s case. They made how she deals with her disability interesting and believable from a worldbuilding standpoint. Though I will say, turning down a prosthetic arm feels a little silly. I would’ve asked for a cool sword or a gun for my hand.

As a disabled vet myself, what’s offensive about her?

Genuine question, not trying to start a fight. Since the campaign was so Alliance heavy, I didn’t read quests and only half paid attention to cinematics.

The Lothar thing is offending people I think, other than that, nothing really.

She’s a Rey Palpatine clone and I will die on that hill.

She turned down an fully functional arm designed to improve her combat performance.

It’s akin to having a hand gun and turning down an ar-15 in a survival setting (and don’t give me that learning curve deal, with their magical tech they got.)

I thought that was pretty stupid too but my mind didn’t go there. My mind went to:

“So you turned down the chance to be a badass like Furiosa to remain crippled? Good job, idiot.”

True.
It’s making this forum hard to digest lately.

She may be a “DEI” character, but my opinion
she was for my money the most interesting of the newer characters, I wanna know more about her at the very least.

Pretty sure Anduin Lothar was the last of his line. It was kind of a big deal
