I work for a ISP, even with critical maintenance we dont take everything offline for that long.

Brain scientist rocket surgeon here. It never takes 8 hours to operate on a rocket

Then there was the 36 hour Patch Crash of Lich King back in the day…patch day for patch called Call of the Crusader …down 10 hours already…finally game comes up …everyone logs in …about 30 mins later all the realms across the world crash and crash hard…most realms where down close too 30+ hrs till some of them started to come up…many players had to reinstall the game as the patch had damaged their files on their systems…what a 2 day event that was…

They “could” just do 1 hour maintenance but then something new added might have a code error and my sunfire spell might do 8 billion dmg and kill everyone in BGs and I may not tell anyone. So, best if we have 8 hour downtime, so they can test things and remove temptation.

8 hour maintenance Tuesday

I can see it now Player 1: Why is wow down so long I want a refund . It should be down no more then an hour Player 2: Well they did say they would be down for 8 hours . Player 1: Where did they say that ? Player 2: On the launcher Player 1: I don’t check the launcher Player 2: It’s also on the character select screen in a big box with letters even Stevie Wonder could see. Player 1: I don’t read things Player 2: That explains a lot.

It wasn’t a patch and I have seen them before bring realms up earlier then stated they would be down…this was NFS[network file system] work job not a patch…

Yeah, but they were anticipating this maintenance to last far longer than it did. There’s no way things are going to be anywhere remotely stable during prime time. I will be very surprised if they are.

I rather them say it would take 8hrs as opposed to “2hrs of downtime” then have it extended by 3 hrs
