to make the black scarred wolf that you can tame a horde only pet only available through a quest chain while earning the Vulpera race, when the EXACT same model exists in the halls of Valor? We’ve had race and faction exclusive pets, but those are usually because of rep or race lockouts due to beginning pet upon creation. I’m cool with that. These wolves though are plentiful and there’s NO excuse for such a stupid thing as this. Not to mention even as horde you get ONE shot at taming them, because after you turn in the particular quest they exist in, they become locked and inaccessible. Another head scratching decision with no real reasoning behind it.
You can still tame one if you have someone on the quest invite you and use party sync so you zone to them. I’d recommend doing it quickly while people are still doing them in hordes.
But yes, I was livid when I found out that was the only way to get that model. I got my vulpera day one and they weren’t even alive long enough to see the model let alone tame one.
I’ll have to wait until they reverse the decision and unlock the HoV ones for taming. I really wanted the black scarred wolf to compliment my black furred scarred worgen hunter.
I didn’t even realize this when I did the quest chain, but to be honest I think I like the model from Halls of Valor more.
Well, a simple google search before the patch would have educated you on this wolf. Something like, “are there any new pets in 8.3”. That search took me about, what, 8 seconds? I tamed two on patch day.
What is it with today’s gamer? It’s your fault you didn’t tame it. Literally.
That’s why I always check wow-petopia before patches are released…
This. It’s like, who’s stupid idea was it to put that pole on the side of the road? I didn’t know it was there and ran my car into it.
I don’t think Alliance players would be able to tame it. Honestly, I’m kind of waiting for the model to return in Shadowlands…actually, I have Fenryr, so not really.
Speaking of models that I haven’t seen in a while, nice to see the lions making a comeback in Ulduum. Anyone know if those Savannah Lions are tameable?
At least on ptr, they were not. I didn’t test on live yet, but wow-petopia didn’t list them as 8.3 tames.
Wow. That’s a douche move - why not just make all of them look like Loque’nahak and untameable?
I mean, if they are tameable it makes Sambas not worth a tame anymore. I personally love the idea of something being very hard to tame. I know that isn’t a popular opinion but I adore having to hunt a pet for weeks on end before I get it. Sambas took me forever. The second one even longer.

Yeah, but remember all those rare scorpids from Cataclysm, the flame spiders near the Flirelands, Savage in the Jade Forest, and that rare turtle (and crane) on the Timeless Isle? Those were all rares that suddenly became common, and I didn’t feel too badly about it, even after all the trouble I went through to get them.
Look, there are two types of people in the world: those who’ve had it pretty hard and think everyone else should have it hard for reasons, and those who’ve had it pretty hard and don’t think others should have to go through the same challenges they did because there’s always new stuff.
There’s always going to be new tames and new rare mobs. It kind of triggers me that ten years on, there are still hunters who are having a hard time getting Loque’nahak.

I don’t care about other people compared to myself. I like the hard, time consuming tames. Taking those and making them easy to get defeats the purpose of a rare mob. Rares aren’t rare anymore. You wait 5 min and they come back.
If anyone is having trouble taming Loque they don’t know how to use google. You could tame in 5 times a day if you know what you are doing. It really isn’t hard anymore using easy tricks.
So make more of them. To me, the best mobs weren’t the rare ones, but the challenge mobs - the ones that were always there, but needed to be done carefully.
I’d be with you on the idea of keep rare mobs rare if sharding wasn’t a thing. I really can’t tell you how many times I’ve sighted a rare mob only to have it disappear on me the second I throw a trap at it. Screw that: it might have been cool before, but sharding completely screwed it up.
(Takes another long, hard look at poster.) Hello there. So, you’re a Troll? From Zandalari? Hmm, around here, Trolls have Tusks. (Displays several polished tusks, dangling from keychain). You never have tusks? Nvrmd… I like your ears…
I don’t play on an RP server so…
It is Hati.
You have multiple shiny effects to choose from from the exact same model doing the hati quest.

Now they are!
With patch 8.3, they hotfixed a bunch of beasts to be tamable that previously weren’t. For those wondering, this is the beast that the opening post is referring to:

I don’t know when the wolves in HoV became tamable, but they are now (according to this site).
The black wolf is not Horde-only anymore.
