Who's still playing Era in 2024?

I’ve been playing it for a few years now, and I just want to get an idea of why people are still playing it when SoD is a thing.

Because SOD is a thing

Looking at sod PVP, I’ll stick with era thanks

Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you’re not trolling here XD
I’ll answer the inquiry sincerely…

Era is a masterpiece of a game, that has nearly perpetual longevity unless you’ve actually acquired best-in-slot gear on every class already.

  • Every class plays a little differently.
  • The talent trees are interesting and leave room for customization depending on your playstyle.
  • Professions are only increasingly relevant/useful as time goes on.
  • The game actually just gets MORE fun after your character is in the best gear, not less.
  • The community is filled with people that are willing to take/spend time to do things, including helping others, teaching others, traveling with others, explaining what they’ve learned or what strategies are effective. There is no culture of expecting instant queues into content, and this in turn creates a stronger social fabric where players are more willing to engage each other interpersonally without rushing
  • Era has far fewer bots than other game versions; they do still exist around the margins, but their methods are easily identifiable and they get dealt with relatively promptly.
  • In a perfect world (without SoD interference) Era is stated to be an unchanging preservation of the vanilla version of the game, meaning that all the time you spend to build up any character or UI setup will hold/retain it’s value for much longer, and can be refined without the prospect of a new patch dropping a new raid tier that renders all your previous efforts negligible.

I could easily drone on further with more bullet points but these are just the first couple of aspects that come to mind.

I’ll add the caveat that I’m not the type of person who has FOMO or ever has felt compelled to chase the ‘hype’ crowd or follow what streamers are doing. I just know a solid game when I see it.

In short, SoD is a phase; Era is forever…

This is exactly why I haven’t gone back to SOD since phase 2. Its going to end while vanilla lives forever. Everything I do on Era servers are worth it because there will always be an influx of players on era. Even if they leave for certain patches, the players will always come back because Blizz will never make more vanilla forever servers. Thats one of the few smart things Blizz has done for era.

Been playing for a couple months and quit SOD in P3. Realized I wouldn’t be able to keep my character and a SOD era realm seems unlikely as it seems like we are beta testing this more than anything lol

Naw, SoD is getting moved to it’s own set of servers when it ends. it’ll keep going.

That’s, a good thing. That community should be caged to its own corner away fro everyone

I sure hope you’re correct about this… yet if Season of Mastery can be considered any indication… then Era players have great cause for concern.

Here is few possible you can get :
1.) Transfer SoD player to classic era. remove all rune, recipe, SoD special weapon…etc
which make hella of works for some poor internship.
2.) SoD too popular, make forever server same as classic era, but time to time make some change ppl never ask for as well as NEW season patch ruined both SoD era/classic era.
3.) SoD too dope, lets progress to TBC SoD.

 :joy:   :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:
stop it, my jaw hurts from laughing

Everyone except axewipe

He says he plays but he doesn’t

Well, SoD is an abomination to me.

I tried it a little. Didn’t like it at all.

I am one of those people that adored vanilla wow and every expansion and reimagined version has just watered down what I loved.

Im only subbed to play Era. No interest in anything else.

Same here. I haven’t even bought War Within. Maybe I’ll try that when it gets discounted, but meh… Era is everything to me.

Because Vanilla is BiS and SoD is trash. Also even tho there are some outliers, the Era community is really solid and fun to play with.

Because somebody needs to kite Dark portal demons, Teremus, Volchan, Borelgore to the SW AH/Mailbox to dunk on people’s bank alts.

era isnt as good as it used to be obv. inflated economy which is understandable but the community with sweats makes it damn near unbearable. but none the less its a time killer and i still have some fun here and there. just get very frustrated with sweats on both factions

People meme on me but genuinely, leveling is so fun on era. I’ve boosted a few toons, but any time I level organically, I feel more attached to my character and have a ton of fun. Fighting against ‘‘blue bar fill up’’ dopamine can be hard re: boosting, even if logically I know I have less fun. :frowning: So I’m leveling on quieter servers and HC :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still playing Era; the HC variety mostly. I don’t play Retail, and haven’t since before Classic launched. I made a SoD character, played a few hours, deleted and went back to Era,

I play Era /HC:
Because it’s the closest to Vanilla I can get.
Because progress means something.
Because professions matter.
Because classes are different.
Because I decide which talents to set, where to go, which quests to do …
Because there’s no nagging Quest markers everywhere I look - I have to go exploring.
Because food buffs and class buffs matter.
Because levelling still is fun.

Because … I simply love Vanilla :icecream:
