…Should have been stopped. That city is asinine to explore. Everything is so far away, especially if you need to go to the forge, then the auction house, then whoops need to switch my pets before leaving, thats like 10-15 minutes of walking. And, ugh, for whatever reason, my minds ALWAYS confuses valley of honor and valley of wisdom, and im constantly making the wrong turn at alberquerque, getting to the valley of honor when i meant to go to valley of wisdom. Soon I’ll make my hearth Mulgore; despite being a bunch of plateaus tethered together by rickety bridges, at least that city is designed circularly, so that it’s much more convenient to navigate.
/end rant.
As someone who played vanilla through BC and stopped, never reaching 70, it feels good to be back in this game. I’ve missed it. At least Aspect of the Cheetah will mitigate some of the Orgrimmar blues i’m feeling.
I have always loved playing horde, but the thought of Orgrimmar without a flying mount stopped me this time.
I agree with you.
Orcs just aren’t good architects.
All of the Horde cities are a pain to navigate. For the Alliance only Darnassus really is, Stormwind is a series of squares, and Ironforge is just a giant circle.
Orgrimmar is… Orgrimmar. Thunder Bluff isn’t so bad but it is hard to remember where everything is and how to get to the bridges. Undercity isn’t so bad once you learn it, but can still be a pain.
Can’t even blame the Orcs on this one: Gazlowe was hired by Thrall to build Orgrimmar
So you can blame the Goblins, really
Despite this, Orgrimmar is infinitely, infinitely better than Dazar’alor, where Zand Trolls demonstrate how they have absolutely no idea how to construct a city
What are you talking about? Undercity is the easiest in the entire game.
We orcs have plenty of muscle to walk or even run, not like those weak humans.
Welcome to 2006. Nice to meet you lol
It’s Thrall’s fault. No wonder he stepped down as warchief.
What it lacks in navigability it makes up for in easy access to all the most popular parts of the game world, with the exception of black rock.
I like orgrimmar because it looks just like a horde of orcs said “We build city here” and they just plopped down right there. Just took a valley and made it a city.
I know Ironforge is technically a circle, but it is still hella inconvenient. How is it that I need an Anvil as an Engineer, but the Gnomes only have a forge outside their Engineering cubby? Everytime I spend a session levelling up the profession, I have to run a relay race between the middle area and the Gnomes’ sliver of the city.
Honestly, the one thing that frustrates me about all major cities is the fact that professions don’t consistently have their required workstations nearby. I don’t mind having to run across the city to get to the AH, but if I could least not have to run across the city just to craft something, that would be nice.
That’s why I stick to UC most of the time. It’s the smallest by far. From the center, every NPC is about 30 seconds away, except for the occasional quest deeper into the Apothecarium.
Then again I can do this easily since I’m a mage…
Stormwind: Trade District, okay that where we trade stuff like AH and bank. Mage District, that where magic item should be. ect.
Orgrimmar: Valley of Strength, Valley of Honor, ect. What!.
Thank gods, even in classic, guards can help tell you where most stuff is.
Thunder Bluff – everything you need within 40 yards: mailbox, bank, AH, forge, fishing
I think ironforge is easier than UC. They’re both circular but IF doesn’t have elevators or multiple levels. Those aren’t terribly complex but it makes UC slightly more so than IF IMO
It’s important to remember that in 2004, Blizz made the bulk of it’s money on keeping players playing as long as possible. Designs around quests, zones, Spirit Rez, etc… and cities was to keep you moving as long as possible ON FOOT.
I know this sounds cynical (because it is) but that doesn’t make it “fake news”.
Wait until you need to go to Kargath.
I never played horde until the stress test. I made it to Orgrimmar and thought the layout was insane. I missed my never ending circle of IF where can just keep running straight and I will always reach my destination.
You think Orgrimmar is bad? Have you been to UC recently?
