Who started the confusion around the Helm of Domination

So I was revisiting some Lich King videos to see if any creators had some insight that I had not yet heard, and I’ve seen some very prominent personalities use the term Helm of Damnation. Which of course, people who actually play this game know isn’t a thing. The Helm of Domination is the helm the Lich King wears, yet I have seen countless people refering to it as this nonsensical helm of damnation. Does anyone know who started this heresy? Or where the confusion comes from? Its been Helm of Domination since WC3 or is this a retcon from the books that has yet to be reflected in the games?

I have noticed that too. Several popular channels miss name it.

People probably simply forgot the actual name, i cant even remember if i have ever heard the name of the helmet ingame

Helm of Damnation just feels right.

It’s the Scourge. The Cult of the Damned.

Whoever named it “Helm of Domination” made a mistake.

I disagree on the count that ‘damnation’ sounds a little tacky.

The helm of domination refers to its ability to dominate the wearer and the minds of the undead. It makes no sense to refer to damnation as the wearer isnt sent to hel or given control over demons. It gives the wearer control over undead beings, as in those not sent to the afterlife. Completely different concept

It sends those controlled by the Lich King into a life of Damnation.

No it doesnt. It does the opposite. Your soul doesnt go to the shadowlands. It is warped and bound to a life of servitude and domination…

Sounds pretty damnating to me.

Do you know what the word damnation even means? It means being sent to hel with no possibility to return. It is literally, like completely, and totally the opposite of what the undead are. Undead are souls prevented from entering the afterlife. The cannot be damned because they cannot be sent to hel as sylvanas proved because the undead are fated to nothingness once they are killed again. You should really look up what the words mean…

Sounds like a hell to me. :smugpepe:

One person told another person who told another person who told another person.

Give it a year and the youtubers will be calling it the helm of desalination.

Not really. It controls the Scourge. Thus, domination.

damnating.

Vol’Jin: Is it you who be trappin’ me soul in dis world? Ta jail me like ya jail da Scourge?
Bolvar: You are neither undead nor damned. You do not belong here. Leave this place at once.

Like someone else had mentioned there’s the Cult of the Damned to consider as well. I think there was probably a flip flop between the two words, internally, before settling on Domination. Both ideas are pervasive in Scourge life. It was likely hard to get the other option unstuck from peoples’ heads.

What it means IRL doesn’t matter. There’s no hell in the Warcraft universe, yet the word still exists. And the Scourge uses it. Remember: Cult of the DAMNED.

They’re similar looking words, and Damnation would also fit the theme. Seems like an easy mistake to make. I feel like I’d have to at least take a moment to remember which it was.
