Was it ever stated who exactly saved Vol’jin? I’ve just seen speculation it was Azeroth
Vol’jin died before Argus died.
So then what happened to his spirit? He wasn’t sent to The Maw and Bwonsamdi didn’t know where his spirit was either. Eyir only mentioned he was “touched by the hand of valor”
Bwonsamdi.
But the Arbiter wasn’t broken until Argus died, so it doesn’t matter either way.
As for why he was lost to Bwonsamdi, that was Vol’jin’s nemesis. I don’t remember his name.
Bwonsamdi had a moment of weakness, he escaped, and Vol’jin got pulled out too.
So then what did Eyir mean by “touched by the hand of valor”?
We don’t know, and neither did Blizzard.
It’s a plot line that blizz never did anything with. We’ll never likely know what they meant by it
He was sent to Ardenweald, as that’s what Da Other side is connected to. He’s one of the souls you rescue in the Queens Conservatory (I think) he’s then recruited by the Winter Queen to help when Loa and Wild God spirits are being stolen by Mawsworn.
He helps save the soul of Rezan from being consumed by a Mawsworn general. Rezan tells Vol’jin to consume his soul instead.
Vol’jin then becomes a Loa or Wild God himself, but he also needs to nap before being reborn.
It’s currently unknown where he went when he got lost after the broken shore. It is as you say that he was not on the other side nor was he in the Maw (since it’s the first time he visits it in shadowlands)
We just know that he was mysteriously touched by the hand of valor, and altered even more than Vol’jin himself knew, according to the Lich king and Eyir.
After the whole BFA thing with summoning his spirit Vol’jin agrees to follow Bwonsamdi to the other side, which he continued to reside in up until Bwonsamdi went full detective mode about the missing Loa since the winter queen was doing nothing about it. And on Bwonsamdi’s order the night fae mawwalker and Vol’jin head into the maw to save them. This is where he is infused with the essence of Rezan and after they deliver the other loa to the winter queen she allows him to reside in a wildseed. Previous to this he had not been placed in Ardenweald before being placed in the wildseed.
Because time doesn’t work in the Shadowlands, it’s entirely possible that when Eyir says Vol’jin was touched by the ‘hand of valor’ she was referring to Vol’jin post eating Rezan. Someone like Eyir would see being merged with a being somehow connected to the Light as ‘valor’ and thus there ya go.
This is of course 100% out my butt, but if Blizzard has no idea what that was supposed to mean, I’m just going to make something up that seems somewhat plausible.
Nope. All we have is speculation on the matter. It could have been Rezan based on his comments about Vol’jin being the future, Azeroth herself saving onf of her champions, or even some new character down the road if Blizzard feels like it.
As we all do
Not all souls make it to the Arbiter. Direct sacrifice and powerful planar agents can hijack a soul’s journey and direct it elsewhere as Elune did with the dead of Teldrassil. Night Elves who become wisps don’t go to the Arbiter’s judgement until their wisp incarnations are destroyed.
He died before Argus did, so he never went to the maw. The only time he was in the maw was with us to save Loas/Wild Gods. He bound himself to us so he could get out, just like everyone else we took there.
Someone sent him back, that is all we know. Bwonsamdi didn’t get him like he was supposed to (which Bwom said “my boss” meaning Mueh’zala was going to be pissed about), and he was touched by something. Another cosmic entity had a hand in it but no one on Azeroth or Shadowlands knows who so far. That touch also allowed him to fuse with Razan’s powers to become something new. Probably the next Loa of kings or something similar. Last we see of him he’s going to enter a wild seed so he can be reborn on Azeroth.
So full timeline is Dead>Shadowlands>sent back by someone>goes back to the shadowlands >maw with us>Ardenweld to be reborn.
Same. He has the Azeroth sparkle of approval.
Maybe it related to the Light until Blizzard’s writers got fixated on retconning a bad side into it and dropped the “Hand of Valor” to focus on making Naaru jobbers for fel junkie elves.
