Headcanon: all living player characters are latently aberrations in some tiny way that somehow trips debug mode when it comes to waygates and dying.

I thought it was funny how everyone acted surprised that we were the ones that activated the pillar that ported us out of the Maw. Like come on gang, I’ve been the Hero of this story for 20 years!

Not sure why we can, but I don’t think we’re the first because several quests make the inference the term existed before we were here. Barring fictional creatures, languages don’t make terms for things which don’t exist. You will also hear NPCs who refer to us as “A” maw walker versus “THE” maw walker. That infers we aren’t the only ones. It’s just a rare ability and/or the ability hasn’t been seen in a very long time. (Remember what “very long time” can mean to these NPCs.)

This reason is why I noted above fictional creatures. We don’t know we really are the first, or the word simply exists because what we can do used to just be bedtime stories in the Shadowlands. Maybe we really are the first since the creators of the gate. :slight_smile:

I think I read somewhere that it was because of the power we absorbed from the Heart of Azeroth. That’s as good a reason as any for me.

Doesn’t explain the other mortals who couldn’t escape on their own.

Heart of azeroth infusion or some 4th wall breaking/fate establishing mechanism to facilitate the player-characters escaping.

Doesn’t the maw intro stuff show that we are the maw-walker because our heart of azeroth triggers the waystone to activate after eons of being inactive?

I always thought they were kind of trolling us with the term maw-walker, not only could we not fly but we couldn’t even mount up, hence ‘walker.’
