Who names the bouncing baby dragon?

The dam? The sire? Both? Are they born knowing their names a la Pern? Or is there a secret book of baby names divided up by flight?

I name them, they’re my children.

We do not really know, but dragons are normally very hands off with the raising of their young normally—They leave it to the Dragonspawn who have been specially trained in the topic. I would say they either name themselves, or the Dragonspawn name them.

Cough up the baby name book and no one gets hurt!

I remember Wrathion was aware of his surroundings as an egg, as he mentions it to the rogue in Cataclysm – So there’s a chance they have enough intelligence to decipher their own name.

Although Wrathion’s is a special case, and as we’ve seen from other whelps – Some do act more like actual children, so there’s a chance that the outside influences have an effect on them too or perhaps it lays with the individual dragon and of cause there’s also the matter that it could depend on the parents of the dragon too. Naturally there’s also the chance it’s all of the above, but yeah.

Tbh this topic kind of has me curious at what the Primal Incarnates would had looked like as baby drakes. :joy:

Another example of why WoW’s writing sucks.

Do they name them at all? They seem to just give me their young as a reward for my continued support.

Anyone else feel disapointed that our four flying mounts this expansion weren’t like…characters we met and befriended during our journies through the various regions of the dragon isles?

No, they were just given to us. Missed opportunity.

+50 agree. It’s especially jarring fighting and murdering proto-drakes, having the disk 1 starter bosses be proto-drakes, and then having normal dragons go “here! have a proto-drake friend to ride on!” That could’ve been an interesting plot point…maybe have a proto-drake who disagreed with the primalists choose to defect and join our side?

Adding to this, we know that the Primalists are also “enchancing” regular proto-drakes and their eggs as well. The side quest in Waking Shores where you take photos of proto-drakes shows this.

Would’ve been interesting if our proto-drake friend was one of those who was about to be primalized against their will. So we free them and in return they want to help us.
