Saying things like that make me think you never played TBC. Or retail.
Coincidentally,
You thinking otherwise makes me believe the same about you.
I think otherwise because TBC and BfA are nothing alike in terms of gameplay, character advancement, or social interactions.
I quit after original TBC, but I have no interest in taking this character to TBC if it means that I lose the level 60 version of this character.
I put way too much time into building this character to go through a reset.
The gear replacement wheel that started in TBC is why I quit originally.
I love the fact that specific items in earlier raids are still useful throughout the game. Items that I earned a year ago like BRE, DJB, QSR, etc. still have a long life, and Iâve gotten items more recently that will still prove the test of time in classic.
Despite the obviously rough itemization for certain classes/specs and in some cases across the board, the longevity of loot in classic is a major plus, and itâs long been one of the strongest aspects of the game.
So yeah even though I enjoyed TBC, I donât want this character negatively impacted.
Iâd rather just sit around playing BGs with whoever stays behind and maybe dabble in some TBC on a copy or just a âfreshâ level 58 warrior or whatever they implement.
Letâs see:
Watered down the Horde to the point the faction is garbage now.
Flying
Daily Quest
Arena
Dungeon Difficulty (Normal/Heroic)
Major Class Overhauls
New Zone
Trivializing Past Content in favor of new content
Dungeon Finder
Raid size nerfs
etc.
There are plenty of topics about how The Burning Crusade changed WoW into what is now retail.
People are just in denial that that the expansion they started in, is the undisputed trash that ruined WoW.
Notice everyone on Youtube and this forum keeps begging for TBC changes tooâŚyeahâŚ

I hate to say it, but yes I am one of those that enjoyed BC but quit because of how it changed the game.
It just felt like I was going to be trapped in an endless cycle of being forced to change gear every season, etc. and I hated that feeling. Just endlessly storing up PVP points/honor points to buy next seasonâs gear on day 1.
There is no greater feeling in classic (and in vanilla) than when I got my R12 PVP gear, why because I knew Iâd be able to use it forever. Itâs forever PVP BIS.
TBC takes that feeling away, and itâs basically why I quit the original game.
I love a lot about TBC, but the fact that it makes the game an endless cycle is a big negative.
I realize some classes (hunters/rogues) were like that in vanilla/classic, but a lot of classes arenât like that, warriors especially (which is all I play).
Every MMO has been like this. That is how this genre works. Even the pen and paper on some level allows you to go on adventure nearly as long as you are able but has advances in creatures up to god levels.
Sure, but classic isnât like this. My BRE doesnât change from Ragnaros until Naxx.
I wonât change out my QSR from MC.
I wonât change out my MDM from Nef.
I wonât change out my R12 gloves/pants/boots because theyâre always BIS at lvl 60.
Flatter gear scaling/itemization is a part of the charm of classic. Yes, the KT/Sapph items are a bit overscaled, but even there itâs not like they fit in every slot.
Only ~5 items in Naxx are warrior PVP BIS.
Some advances are fine to me; âchange out your whole gear setâ is not.
it was never a secret what I wanted. Give me the trilogy experience and lock it after Wrath. Wonât happen that it stops there but as long as after each expansion they do give us fresh locked servers that means I will eventually have a server where I can experience each of my 3 favorite versions as they were meant to be experienced, over and over again for as long as they want my money.
Wish they would make a few servers that go to different expansions, a couple to TBC, and a few that go to Wotlk as well as keeping straight Vanilla ones. I would definately play on the wotlk ones.
Why? You change your whole computer as you get better Tech. You changed your cell phone from Bricks to computers you hold and can watch movies on. To that end, updating what you wear to fight more advanced encounters isnt that far off in a magical world.
I am not here to convince you to play tbc just point out the idea that âI shouldnt change my suitâ is a flawed argument to not advance.
I feel bad for individuals who are incapable of upgrading computer components, and instead just replace the entire box.
That wasnât remotely an overnight thing. I was around when we had rotary dial phones in funky 60s colors. There was a slow ramp up to the point where we were watching netflix on a phone we could carry in a small pocket.
TBC basically took vanilla progression and made it pointless and easily bypassed. I completely understand where Hawne is coming from. The gear leap from L60 into Hellfire Peninsula was ludicrous, and was a hint of things to come from the game, and one of the chief complaints with retail.
Itâs a double edged sword for me.
On one hand itâs nice knowing Lionheart helm or onslaught girdle are great for so long, and it feels amazing to get.
On the other it sucks when a new raid comes out and you already know most of the loot is trash compared to what you already have and will only get a few new items. Some of which are more sidegrades than upgrades.
Yeah I fully understand that itâs double edged like that. Itâs just the feeling in BC is when it all started to feel repetitive replacing gear every season (for PVP), and I quit around the middle of season 3 when I asked why I kept just saving up points to prepare for the next season every time.
Even towers have changed in the past 16 years to improve air flow and ports for bigger cards. Better wire managment as well as allowing better access for Water cooling. Its not like you HAVE to upgrade your tower all the time but that doesnt mean you cant upgrade your stuff as you go through.
If your argument is that you should never upgrade a case after you get it are you still using the same case you had 16 years ago? Good on you if you are you found a good one. I still have the old PC and cases i have just repurpse them when enough of the parts got that old that new Mobo is in order.
You replaced maybe items from the first raid of the game that was 2.5 years old. Thats HARDLY over night for anyone that DID the content enough⌠which was nobody at that time. So the merrits of that argument are already porrly constructed. Naxx gear lasted late into the leveling if not raiding progress and in some cases with Kel trinkets were STILL The best in the expansion
To that end if you want to make an argument about pgoression the big progression changes came from Wrath and Cata when they adjusted nearly everything about the game to âMake it easier for new peopleâ
People should never progress past level 60 gear for how most thing gear progression should go
It tossed vanilla progression out the window. That is the point I am trying to get across. You can literally waltz into Hellfire at L58 and have gear dumped on you that arguably surpasses the vast majority of vanilla raid gear.
I came solely for TBC. Vanilla was a good enough reason to come back, but the without any question, I have played in prep for TBC.
Activisionâs garbage handling of Classic has me very concerned about TBC, and Iâm very worried theyâre going to ruin the raid release and just give us the nerfed content like they did with Classic. If there was ANY input from the original developers, we would have had the proper Broodlord, Drakes, Hakkar and Câthun release for us, not the nerfed versions.
I fully understand why that happened (i.e. making Vanilla gear obsolete in BC), but my point is more as to within each expansion making the gear scale flatter.
I like putting in a ton of effort and knowing itâs going to be rewarded for a long time.
Not something like every 5-6 months I have to change most of my pieces of gear.
Itâs just hard to describe but feeling like I was a hamster on a wheel is why I quit BC as much as I loved a lot of things about it, and from what I understand it gets worse beyond BCâŚ, so I donât think Iâll be interested in that.
