For me? Sally Whitemane.
And I mean Sally Whitemane before the horseman nonsense.
I thought that was such a stupid choice and worse than the character assassination of Garrosh, who started out strong in Cataclysm. What a disappointment. Back to Sally Whitemane, though. I do know that the Scarlet Crusade made massive mistakes and committed atrocities. They had good intentions at the start, but had paranoia plague their ranks from within and suddenly killing off the scourge wasn’t enough. If you didn’t stand with them, you were against them. They were gutted from the inside out. They became extremists, for sure. I do not deny that. However, I am very much a fan of the Scarlet Crusade and had they not become so narrow minded, then I think they would have made incredible allies. Their values and yearn to take back their home stood out to me years ago. I used to wish that I could join them. Perhaps I still do. The Renegades would have even sufficed, really.
I was always a fan of Sally Whitemane and knowing she had her heart in the right place at the beginning when she witnessed the plague and scourge firsthand, is disheartening to know she pretty much descended into madness. Innocent lives were lost and people were tortured. I am well aware of that. But like… I love her. She’s pretty cool. Lmao.
I’m sure there are “worse” characters or groups people find fascinating and would join or root for in a heartbeat, so I’m wondering just who all that entails. I’m sure some people out there cheer for the Old Gods or Deathwing or The Cult of the Damned. Or, maybe I am just a crazy Scarlet sympathizer. I did have someone go all in on me once for saying I liked them. I don’t mean “I disagree.” I mean, I was called name and real world problems were compared and I just kind of blinked because if you take fantasy fiction that seriously, well…Lol.

Garrosh Hellscream
Literally the greatest character the WoW team ever made

You have to remember that the Scarlets were taken control of and manipulated by a Dreadlord fairly early on. Who knows what they could have become without that influence?
I blame Wrathion cuz its his fault we didn’t get to keep him
August celestials were gunna let garrosh go!

You are absolutely right, however when I have explained that to people, I’ve just been called a sympathizer and told there’s really no excuse for their atrocities. You are totally right, though. 100%.
Topper McNabb. I just know the next scheme will be the one that works.

Lord Herne. I know he is very controversial lol
He gave me some lame quests periodically and kicked me from his guild because he has gotten bitter in his old age or something but I still like him.

Sure forgive them the first time but they let it happen again in Wrath. One time is a mistake, two times is poor judgement.

Call me what you will but I’m not wrong.
I actually like Nathanos. A lot of it is just his voice.

Maybe not “controversial”, but I would ride into any battle for my Cookie Wizard Grumbles.
(Raises
for Grumbles.)
To answer the question more seriously however…
King Mekkatorque. More of the unpopular choice I imagine, but my first main character being a Gnome Warrior, and having loved how science is done in Warcraft with the Gnomes I would ride into hell itself (in World of Warcraft that is) for the King of the Gnomes.

Nathanos was great because he could throw shade and make you feel important. Following Sylvanas around like a lost puppy was a bit of a character flaw.

Wow okay, I did not expect that one.
