Who is more like a necromancer? Warlock or Shadow Priest?

Yes in some cases, but necromancy is mostly known for speaking with the dead to get fortunes and the like.

Ok we’re talking about WoW here

What did you think people were talking about?

huh? umm, Wow
 :man_facepalming:

No

Just no.

That’s not necromancy. That’s just being a “medium” or a “psychic”.

Necromancy is LITERALLY “Death Magic”, as in “raising dead bodies”.

Seances, mediums and psychics are NOT THAT.

From Wiki : Necromancy (/ˈnɛkrəménsi/)[1][2] is the practice of magic involving communication with the dead – either by summoning their spirits as apparitions, visions or raising them bodily

Webster : Definition of necromancy

1 : conjuration (see CONJURE sense 2a) of the spirits of the dead for purposes of magically revealing the future or influencing the course of events

Do you understand what “CONJURATION” means?

SUMMONING DEAD THINGS.

Mediums and Psychics DON’T DO THAT.

Please admit you’re wrong. NO ONE but you thinks “Necromancy” is just “talking to the dead”

In Shadowlands? Mage.

They got a spell to turn into a Lich lol

(If they join the Necrolords)

Here I am agreeing that necromancy is raising the dead for combat and such.

Here I am again saying the necromancy is used for combat.

When I said Warlocks created the Deathknights (These undead warriors) first, I guess they were just having a friendly chat over at a coffee shop.

I can appreciate your effort and opinion but for the sake of WoW culture and not paranormal culture. You are just plain wrong and so is anyone else that say Warlock.

Gothik the Harvester taught DK’s Necromancy
 He is/was a Necromancer NOT a Warlock.

He even does it in the DK starting area

This was retconned with the chronicle and also with shadowlands.

Dreadlords stole the objects used to forge frostmourne and the domination gear from the shadowlands (it’s also strongly implied that Dreadlords are originally from the shadowlands, and have sent agents to the other 5 cosmic forces in order to manipulate them for an unknown end).

Old lore stipulates that the dreadlords also discovered necromancy, but if they are from the realm of death, originally, they probably just stole that knowledge from Maldraxxus.

Both warlock and shadow priest have a couple necromancy things, but neither really approach it fully, though i would suppose that affliction warlock does get closer.

TL:DR: Necromancy originates from the plane of death, demons just adapted it.

(Side note, the void, and the light have also done some adaptations. See the zuldazar incursion with the void raptor skeletons, and Calia Menethil.)

I love threads like this and I appreciate you lore nerds.

Gul’dan took the corpses of the fallen Knights of Stormwind, and intended to imbue the rotting corpses with the souls of the Shadow Council-

the Warchief watched as the energies of the necrolyte’s heart that powered the weapon coursed through the corpse, until its eyes finally opened. Teron’gor was reborn as the first Death Knight, soon taking the name Teron Gorefiend to reflect his new life

From WC2, Gul’dan, a warlock, was the first to do necromancy in the Warcraft universe.

Was Teron’gor mindless? No? Then NOT Necromancy

Why do you need to be mindless for it to be necromancy?? Where is this rule?

Here you are saying something that is COMPLETELY NOT THAT.

Here’s your ENTIRE quote, where you claimed it had something to do with them draining souls and putting them BACK into people:

Death Knights are Necromancers. Warlocks are NOT.

You obviously haven’t had much experience in fantasy games in the past either, because you wouldn’t be saying this at all if you had.

From every fantasy game before Warcraft was even an idea because that’s where they got THEIR ideas.

The closest thing we get to Necromancy is the Hermit in Duskwood, he creates a mindless abomination to destroy the town. Diablo 3 Necromancers all summon mindless undead as minions. DK minions are mindless undead.

There are 3 rules for you

Warlock is closer than Spriest, if you want to RP as a necromancer. You have soulshards, drain soul, and you can revive a dead ally. However, their power comes from the fel.

Are death knights battle rez a form of necromancy or something different? I know it used to just turn people into ghouls but now it’s a full on resurrection

That one perhaps, by the same person?
