Who is LFR Supposed To Be For?

Ran the second wing of LFR yesterday and it completely blew my mind as to who the intended audience is even supposed to be.

I’ll just point out the worst of them - Pantheon. A boss that spawns tornadoes whilst a frogger game runs through the middle of the raid?

I get the mechanics aren’t hard to deal with when you learn them, but…this is LFR we’re talking about. An unorganized queued group half-filled with AFKers who’d rather go make a cup of coffee or read a book when the boss is pulled, and that’s not counting those who whose skill level caps at LFR (there is nothing wrong with that by the way - everyone has a different skill level and don’t deserve to be ragged on for it).

Recent heroic bosses have had less gimmicks to deal with. Who is LFR supposed to be for now?

EDIT: It seems the point flew over a lot of heads. My point is that LFR is also now a giant DDR machine like higher difficulties are, and it’s infuriating having all of those mechanics in a queued unorganized group.

This is the intended audience.

Considering the gear is lower ilvl than what you’d even get from ZM by now… I’m not even sure tbh.

People who usually pet battle, but want to try other aspects of the game? People who could give a hoot about “real” raiding, and just want to see the raid itself during the current expansion? People who do not have the time to dedicate to normal/heroic/mythic raiding, but still want to do something related to it?

Its for getting tier when your alts don’t raid until Creation Catalyst comes out.

Or at least trying to get tier but it not dropping for you.

If you are raiding heroic, LFR isnt for you boss. Its for the newer raiders, or people who arent in a guild and just want to see bosses. It encompasses all who cannot progress up the raiding ladder, as well as alts and try-hards (me included in that last one!) and it can be frustrating, but if you go into it relaxed… you will make it out the other end.

Thankfully there are a couple things that make LFR not a shot to the head…

  • I have always enjoyed how trash will preview the mechanics of the boss fight coming up, and it gives someone a chance to point that out in raid chat for the newer LFR guys
  • LFR is undertuned right now to the point that you can finish almost any fight up to Anduin with only half the raid, one tank and probably 2 healers who can move outta death circles. Half the bosses I killed in an alt LFr over the weekend had this exact scenario play out.

I remember when that dagger came out that you could kill yourself with in MoP(?) and I did an LFR where 19 people knifed themselves on pull.

That is the intended audience. People that don’t want to even play the game.

wait is the premise of this OP that there are too many mechanics in LFR?

It’s only purpose is for those that want to see the story but hate the grind of raiding. Also good for completing the raid quests when you hate raiding.

I can actually see this being plausible. It does feel like it’s more intended for actual raiders at this point.

I use it to complete quests and never return.

I didn’t read the actual OP until I saw your comment.

Yeah, that’s funny.

I haven’t actually done the Halondrus wing because my Warrior and Bear have their leggo in pants slot which I refuse to move out of and my Shammy RNG’d a 278 pair of tier pants, but I’ve done the Lihuvim wing several times at this point and I’m not sure where the challenge is, other than maybe both tanks being a bit dumb and not knowing where to move the boss. As long as tanks move Lihuvim to one of the add spawns its an auto-win. Queue as a tank and free loots.

well to be fair have you seen some of the players in LFR?

Trying telling the non-responsive tanks that park bosses in the middle of a frogger game.

I tried to do LFR when I resubbed last month. It was still in the previous raid. I thought it would be easy cause it was the end of the patch and I just wanted to finish Korthia and see the story end in the raid. Oh man was I wrong about the easy part. I honestly don’t know who the raid is made for anymore, it was impossible to get through all the bosses in any wing. I’m definitely missing my guildies right now and as far as LFR goes, it’s not even worth it. I feel like my 9 month old could possibly do better chewing on my keyboard than some of the people in LFR.

I would say that the day before the reset is the worst day to run LFR. Most times, it’s better to slam your face into the wall than do it then.

so far my favorite boss in lfr is xy’mox

you can plant your feet in one spot and not move. He’s literally a patchwerk fight.

it’s absurdly stupid

Idk, I zug zugged through all 7 last night and only had 1 wipe. I’m not even sure what’s going on in half the fights but nothing really hurts that much.

LFR is still a raid mode, it should be somewhat challenging to complete.

Right now LFR is an extra layer of bad luck protection for raiders seeking tier pieces. I was in Some of the smoothest one shot LFRs last week, not sure how it will be this week.

Rough seas ahead for LFR as soon as the creation catalyst comes into play.
